Title: HELP PLEASE Ariel 500 Model D 1928
Post by: andychain on February 24, 2009, 11:33:52 AM
I have been asked for a mag, primary and rear chain for this model. I believe the mag is 1/2  x  1/8, the primary 1/2  x  5/16 and the rear 5/8  x  3/8, but I do not know the number of pitches of the chains can anybody help.

Cheers

Andy

Cheers Zed but they are really unhelpful and told me what I know, the chains, but not the lengths. They only sell Regina chains and I sell only iwis and IRIS so real conflict but there you go. If they ever have a problems on any chain I will repay the compliment.

So the question remains what lengths, but thank you very much for your help it is appreciated.

hello Andy I cannot imagine that draganflypeople are unfriendly you must have picked the wrong day or guy because they are very much ariel guys and very friendly.
I suppose that you do not have the old chains, but I have a 1930 ariel 500 which has 96 pitches 5/8 x 3/8 as rearchain so if you order 100
pitches you can adjust the length
the front chain  is 1/2 x 5/16(.305) and depending on enginesprocket and clutchsprocketit is 78 to 80 pitches so 85 should do to adjust.
the dynamochain is  3/8 with 50 pitches if the sprockets are 15 teeth and 22 teeth on the other side.
I hope that this helpes a bit otherwise you will have to contact one of the arielclubs.
regards george

Thank you George, as I supply chains for bikes I expect they do not want to help. However with over 35 years in the trade what goes round will come round.

Thank you for your information and I will let my client know costs etc. I only do chain and blank sprockets and regularly send clients to other people like Dragonfly for other items.
