Title: Id a gilera

 I have recently bought a gilera motorbike. It has been standing since 1974 according to the wife of the late owner. It is a single cylinder ,red in colour, kick start on the left, gears and chain on the right It runs nicely.The engine, frame number is 2012058. I have to date it before I can register it. It must be close to a 250cc as it runs as fast as my bsa starfire 250, just a lot smoother and less viabration.

Do you have any photos you could show us?

The bike has a 4 speed gearbox, the carb is connected to an airfilter under the left hand side cover. It is different to all the pictures I have seen so far. I need to date the bike exactly for registration .I dont know how to post a picture

Ok photo sent of right side of bike, it also has alloy 17 inch rims, no tail light, front mudguard not from the bike, I fitted it to stop the tyre throwing up sand onto the engine, I stay on a farm. The rubber pipe from the carb is off as it is perished and I am looking for a radiator hose that can fit , until then no more riding.

There is a difference on all the pictures by the right side cover, the battery is seen from outside, maybe that is the difference between the 201, which I dont find and the 202 models which there are lots of pictures.The tank also has a round filler cap.Thanks Mike

The left hand sidecover has a round hole in it which has a mesh cover over it. Inside is a dellorto cover and the airfilter.

The original photo seems to show some sort of cover over the battery on the 202? Could this cover have been removed from your bike?

Doesn't give the model number, only 1965 Gilera Giubileo 200cc

I do not seem to be able to find any info about 'Giubileo 201'.

I dont have any problem with you posting the pictures as without a correct model, year, cc, I cannot license the bike. I actually bought the bike after seeing it for a few minutes in a barn at night. I do not really need the bike but thought what the hell it can join my collection , my wife is still moaning that I paid too much for it.I have a bsa starfire 250 in original unrestored condition, , a bsa victor 440 with suzuki 750 front and rear ends, a 1969 honda 350 twin  a yamaha xj550, a kazuma 125 and a bent suzuki ac 50 .Only the gilera and the suzuki are not licensed.

Hi Mike,I believe your bike is a Gilera B300.They came in A 300 Extra and a 250 Export.They were made in 1955 and went on sale in 1956.  Sparks

I am going to remove the sparkplug and turn the piston to the top then I will fill the cylinder with oil. Then I will turn the piston to the bottom and then fill it again with oil using a measuring spoon. Should this not at least give me the size of the engine. This bike has a rubber pipe joining the carb to the airfilter. There is also a switch under the headlight casing, if it is in the off position the bike will not start. Cheers Mike
