Post by: ij7760 on March 26, 2007, 01:18:52 AM
can anyone identify this bike

it has a villiers d13 engine no. 618a 2441
although the engine is fitted in with large engine plates that look homemade so maybe it was not the origional engine

the frame is  tubular ,twin spar, with swinging arm and earls type front forks
frame no.j5100 5084
it also has 2016 stammped on frame

the front forks are stammped mp378298

i cant put a pic on here for some reason it wont let me but i can email pic of this bike

 SUCCESS !

YOU HAVE A 1965 (ABOUT)  SEDGLEY BUILT ( WOLVERHAMPTON ) DMW SPORTS TWIN FRAME (DUPLEX ) AND FORKS.THE ENGINE SHOULD BE A VILLIERS 2T OR 3T  2 STROKE TWIN. THEY MAY HAVE PUT THE 250 CC SINGLE IN AS WELL ( THE STARMAKER RACING ENGINE WAS DERIVED FROM THAT )

This bike might as well be a DOT-54,according to that
swinging arm front fork?
Or am I(too)totally wrong??

I dont think its a dot as the forks are slightly different, but thanks anyway...it may be a bitsa, but im not totally convinced...the forks are metal profile which i think were owned by dmw, the twin sided single leading shoe  was also used by dmw, the wheels are 17inch and the only bike i can find with 17inch wheels is an ambassador..also which was bought by dmw, the frame i cant find a picture of anything exactly like it but the front engine mounts are lugs welded on to the frame which was also used by dmw(to fit a villiers twin i think)
what i need is frame the numbers used by dmw and ambassador from 62-66, roy bacons book does not give much info on frame numbers of this period, maybe it was as beama said a sports twin but i cannot find a pic of one with a frame like mine..what i need is to identify the two numbers on the frame..2016 on the headstock and p35614514 near where the swinging arm fits......

If you're still out there ij7760, your frame is from a 1956 Ambassador Popular - see photo.
