Title: Headlamp - what's it from?

Hi,

This headlamp has a Lucas ammeter and switch plus a Marchall light unit with a chromed M shield within the light itself and a large M shield on the front of the glass itself. The bulb is a massive job with half silvering on it. The wiring loom includes a speedo light with Smith's style bulb holder retainer

Any ideas of its origins will be welcomed.

It looks like a Lucas MU42. Have you had a look behind the rim catch to see if its marked?

What size is the shell, it looks smaller than an MU42 looking at the size of the switch.

Thanks for the advice so far. I will measure it after I get home tomorrow night. What sort of bike would an MU 42 headlamp go on, and why might it have a french brand light in it?

Lucas sold their products all around the world, one reason for it having a french unit fitted would be that it was fitted to a french make of motorcycle. I am not sure that it is an MU42 it looks too small to me and the rim looks too wide.

I've just compared it in size to my Mu42 and my DU42 and its a perfect match when viewed at the same angle. Easiest way to find out is to clean up the area behind the catch to see what it says.
