Title: tires for vintage British bikes
Post by: hedgehorn on August 07, 2005, 11:15:14 PM
I am looking for tires for My A50 and wondered what most use. I want to keep the vintage look. I like the looks of the avon safety mark but  I can't find a Avon speed rib in a 18'' for the front. What do you guys run front/rear? Thanks in advance. Todd

Todd,
No hard and fast rules in the UK regarding which brand of tyres to use as the choice of suitable classic tyres has become somewhat limited these days, the Dunlop TT100 and Avon Roadrunner/Speedmaster/Safety Mileage would be the most common choice I suppose?

Britcycle list a Speedmaster 3.25 x 18" so I am guessing that they are still available?

I haven't been able to find an Avon Speedmaster 3.25 x 18" advertised elsewhere, so maybe it is no longer available?

L.A.B. what do you think about the bridgestone  ACCOLADE CLASSIC/RETRO? They come in a 3.25x18 front and in a 4.00x18 for the rear. They look correct for the era.

I haven't used these tyres myself but they would seem to be an excellent choice.
