Title: Alcyon Type O 1923
Post by: mick66 on October 26, 2011, 03:58:44 PM
Has anyone worked on or restored a French Alcyon Type O 1923 ish. If so how can the gearbox drive sprocket be removed from the drive shaft, the sprocket appears to be internally threaded and screws onto the drive shaft, held in place with a lock nut, but it just will not shift. To see a picture of the very bike type in "Alcyon Type O 1923" the top one is usually "Petachon" click on that and that's the very bike I need the info on.

Hi Mick,
I guess you've got it off by now? One of your photos shows a keyway - best guess is that the sprocket is on a taper. Some gentle heat, a puller to apply some gentle pressure, then a gentle tap with a mallet?

Hello Cardan
I managed to remove it, some heat and it screws off the shaft anti clockwise. I think the key way is for a tab washer to prevent the lock nut coming undone.
Thanks for the reply
Regards
Mick

Hi
It coming along slowly, the gearbox is completely restored now and i,ve been concentrating on the nickel plating recently but have got 6 bikes on the go so it all takes longer.
I,ve just bought another Alcyon Type O but is still in France as I have not been over yet to pick it up. It has some parts missing but I just bought some on E Bay so I only need to find a few and then it will be complete and ready for restoration.
