Title: Grandad's motorbike
Post by: nmcelwee on March 14, 2012, 12:55:48 AM
Hi

I've had this photo of my Grandad shooting rabbits out on the Canterbury plains here in NZ as my screen wallpaper for ages but I would like to know what bike he has.  From the uniform it must be from around WW1. Any ideas on the bike?

Spot on with the date - the bike is a 1914 Triumph. 550cc, belt drive to three-speed Sturmey Archer rear hub (like a giant push bike one), pedals for starting, and the optional B&B carby rather than the usual double-barrel Triumph item. A man of taste.

Thanks Cardan.  I'm very impressed with both your speed of reply and knowledge of vintage motorcycles!  You made my day.
