Title: A friend sent this picture of his dad and uncle somewhere in Syria in 50's/60's

A pal of mine just sent me this only surviving picture of his Uncle in what is assumed to be Syria or Jordan,  as he was with MI6 for many years in that part of the world. Any idea of what the motorcycles are?

Me neither...must have been stealth bikes that can't be photographed.
