Title: need help identifying a gearbox
Post by: kdenney on September 19, 2012, 01:18:24 AM
Can anyone identify this gear box? It is a 4 speed and appears to have both the kick start and the gear shift on the left hand side.

Looks like Burman ?
Could have been fitted to a Panther or Norton ?

Pretty weird really - it's hard to think of bikes which used a separate gearbox with drive on the right and gearchange and ks on the left. Many of the "back to front" European bikes with the drive on the right used unit construction power plants.

One possibility that comes to mind is a post-WW2 "vertical" Indian. http://www.indian-motorcycles.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=538

Good luck!
