If you could build the perfect machine, which parts would you use & why?
Frame;
Paint Type;
Colour;
Brakes;
Front Forks;
Swinging Arm;
Rear Shocks;
Fuel tank Type style/size;
Carburettor;
Engine;
Lubrication System;
Primary drive;
Charging System;
Mudguards;
Battery;
Electrical System;
Headlight Type;
Rear Light Type;
Handlebars;
Levers;
Seat Unit;
Foot pegs;
Wheel Type;
Chain;
Instrumentation;
Tyres;
Extras;
Anything I have missed add here!
Predicted Build costs (Not using poor quality pattern stuff!) say, £6,500 limit, excluding engine & Frame costs.
& finally who would your pillion be?

You must think we“ve got nothing else to do, it depends on whether it“s for looking at or what type of use. And 6500 wont get you much at todays prices, that“s why I build mine from bits in stock.

Give us a break.
That wouldn't even pay for paint on some of these fancy creations.
Howse about a 16h Norton, with a fresh coat of green-ish housepaint, and a fuelcard.

I can recommend a roll of 3M electrical tape if that helps? I might know a good supplier of 2BA washers too, but I really don't have the time to itemise the rest... :(

Guys,
I said £6,500 for bits & pieces, excluding the cost of getting/restoring an engine and the cost of the frame,
so engine, frame + £6,500 to spend!
I'm talking about building something up, some of you have stated that you wouldn't buy a restored machine outright, as you would be unsure about the quality of parts was was fitted to it!
So its a basket- case or an unfinished project or barn find!
I could build something really neat for £6,500+ so I'm giving you a bonus of engine and frame, not included in the costs!
Say £600-£800 getting an engine & restoring it , plus £800 for a frame, say £2,000 for both.
Man, money is tight, on initial purchase prices on motorcycles, I have never spent more than this, £65,(1975); £350, (1976); £600 (1981); £200, (1986); £1000,(2004); £425, (2007). Then you incur costs rebuilding/restoring!
How can you part with so much money so easily?
My list is nearly complete & on budget for less!

I'm still Gob-smacked
£6,500 is a lot of money, I cannot believe you are telling me you couldn't built something tasty for that amount ,even including a frame and an engine, I reckon I could build something up. Mind you, I would do a lot of the work myself.

Me too JBW, my Imp cost me just over 2 grand to build, but it took me a while to collect all the bits.

I have been pricing up parts & stuff, for the build, interestingly some things haven't gone up much others have. I still think I can be on budget, for instance NJB shocks £120, not bad at all! Though I would go for a fully-shrouded pair!

Just out of interest, price up a Manx short circuit ally tank and a central ally oil tank to match. I bet you don't get much change from a grand. I did recently and got the shock of my life lol.

Wetdog, a World beating all British Super-bike a bit like George Shuttleworth's, remember TT 1936;
I have heard that there are one or two guys linked into Vintage circles who are fabricating this sort of stuff at reasonable prices! None on Evilbay?

I believe there's no such thing as the perfect bike, it just individual choice, you set your parameters & go with it, relative to costs, that's my main concern, limited spending power on British bikes & what the money will do elsewhere, that's also why budgets are tight , because in relative terms, money doesn't go far on British Motorcycles & further in other areas.
If I spent £3,500 I would consider that's a lot of money & quite self-indulgent, it would represent, 5 months mortgage money in real terms! Just the way my head equates things.
Cafe racers can look nice, but the way the roads are going a Street Scrambler would perhaps be more practical, then there's the Touring aspect to contend with.
Can a bike be built that satisfies all 3 aspects and more!

You got the wrong end of the stick; my fault, RE- Shuttleworth Special World Beater, it would great if one was built now to beat the competition, using simple practical technology!
This was meant for Bomber:
