Title: Triumph 5ta swinging arm spindle worn frame
Post by: El sid on November 11, 2013, 09:25:58 PM
Hi,I have a 1961 triumph 5ta and have fitted new swinging arm bushes  but there is a lot of sideways play where the spindle passes through the frame, were there bushes fitted in the frame itself ? I would appreciate any advice how to fix this problem.

if your frame looks like this I don't remember there being any bushes in the frame , the pin is a fit as its not surposed to move (turn) the swing arm has bushes fitted both sides as this does move on the pin , a long thin bolt passes thro the centre and holds a cup either end to stop greese coming out , side to side movment is removed by shims between frame and swing arm . any other play is a sign of worn bushes , worn pin , frame snapped . if the pin is a lose fit in the frame you could fit bushes using a adjustable reamer , or get another front section
