Hi I have a 250 cc AJS csr 14 1965 and hope someone can give me a bit of info to rectify a problem. In 1st and 2nd gear it revs well and pulls well but when changing into 3rd it loses power and gives very little throttle activity. I recently had the tank resprayed and cleaned inside, so could it be filters not letting enough fuel through for the higher gears. As I know very little about this can I leave it in your capable hands.
Many thanks Bud.

Sound like fuel starvation to me. The engine uses up the fuel in the bowl in the first two gears then it cannot be replaced fast enough to keep the engine going.
Check ALL fuel filters and replace/clean them. Also look at needle and seat as there may be something stuck there.

Hi Bud,
There is a lovely little book called "The Land Beyond the Ridge", written by Roy K. Battson about a lifetime of motorcycling. He rode a variety of bikes beginning during the Great War an culminating with a little 250 AJS like yours, which he called "Pete". Even though I'm mostly interested in early bikes, because of this book I have a soft spot for this model AJS.
If you like your little bike and intend to keep it (I hope so), see if you can dig up a copy of the book. It's one of my favourites. Rare these days.
