Title: WHO to trust to bore T120 cylinders
Post by: barthelmurray on April 05, 2008, 05:28:12 AM
I have the cylinders from a 1971 Triumph 650 sitting in front of me on the workbench, they have never been bored beyond standard but it's time for at least a hone or rebore to seat new rings, I'm not willing to trust the job to just anyone so I'm asking for opinions on who would be a good person to trust the job to, Thanks, Phil.

Noting the replies you have posted in other topics, I get the impression you are an eBay salesman! Can't you get a rebore through eBay?  More seriously, you might get a response if you divulge what part of the World you reside in.
By the way, as for determining selling prices with a high reserve on eBay.  I ignore EVERYTHING with "Reserve not met".  They waste my time and annoy me immensely.  If I sell on eBay my starting price is always the reserve (in effect).  If my start price attracts no bids, then I know no one wants to pay what I am prepared to accept.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I am in the USA but I am comfortable in communicating and shipping my cylinders anywhere that I can find a reliable source for British motorcycle repair, I have experience in hiring repairs for American made motorcycles but I would prefer to have the repairs for the Triumph 650 done by someone who is familiar with British motorcycles, also I feel since I've asked for help and advice I am willing to offer the same from my own experience in my response to others. Thanks again, Phil.

I would use Don Hutchinson, www.triumphman.com who has a good reputation for Triumphs and is US based. I always have my cylinders bored and honed to suit the new pistons that I supply to the engineering firm, so you might as well get Don to supply new pistons at the same time as the rebore, so it will be all kept "in house".

barthelmurray,

I think you would be far more likely to get answers about where to get that sort of thing done in your country from a forum that had a rather higher proportion of US members than Vintagebike has?

Like the Britbike forum, for instance?:
