Title: 500 J.A.P engined Excelsior
Post by: DM on April 14, 2006, 09:15:59 PM
Can anyone help identify the model / year of this bike.
J.A.P JORY 500cc racing engine from 1931.
Frame number STT1 or TT1 (the S is not as clearly stamped as the rest of the frame number).

Excelsiors had a very broad range in the late 20's and early thirties and did sell a 500 ohv JAP engine TT replica at that time with the frame prefix TT. (They won the 1929 Lightweight TT) I think you may have one of them.
The gearbox is a ring in but I'm sure you know that.
The VMCC Library would be of help or you could get the 1931 & 32 catalogues from BMS.
Cheers, Bob

Thanks Bob,
I have ordered copies from BMS so hopefully can identify its actual model, the pictures in the catalogues should tell me what gearbox and clutch I need to find.
The gearbox that came with it may be a pre war triumph unit which is available if anyone has a use for it.
