Title: 1920s/30s bike identification help please
Post by: Chocmonster on September 11, 2008, 10:30:26 AM
Hello, I was wondering if someone here could help me. Like many people I've been looking into my family history and have come across an old photo featuring a motorbike.

The photo was taken in Norfolk in 1933, I've worked out that the "UV" means it was London registered but haven't a clue as to what make it is/year built.

Anyone able to shed light on it for me?

Thanks!
Emma

Sorry I cannot help you with the bike, but the UV registration was first issued in June 1929. according to The MEASHAM Register of Motor Index Letters and Numbers issued in 1949.  Later registrations, which often lasted for years often show the last number used in a year, but that seems to be post-war practice and detailed records were not kept before that.
Good luck with your posting!

Where are the vintage AJS experts? I'm not one, but I can say that the bike is an AJS from 1929-30. Was the purple tank panel was used for 1929 only? The model is a side valve single, most likely a 350cc, so more a commuter than a sporting machine.
