Post by: France Ganachaud on September 04, 2008, 12:19:49 PM
+/- 1912 with JAP engine (J.A Prestwich) Newton London. Please help identify this bike! This will be a challenging restoration process.
Many thanks

Hi France,
Looks to be a c1913 Matchless, with a 3-speed Armstrong hub and hand starter. Very nice indeed - looks reasonably complete. If you can supply engine and frame numbers, I'm sure it can be dated more accurately.

Hi France,
I agree, it does look very Matchless like, especially those front forks.
Matchless from 1912 on are very easy to date from the frame number and JAP engines are equally easy to date.
Could you provide the frame and engine numbers please.
Cheers,
