Hi R  1956 and there are two mounting holes in the tank for the badge.

May we ask the distance of the 2 holes ?
Just to make life easier for those searching their badge collections....

Hmm looks somewhat like a Fanny Bee.
Aston Brook St too - close to Nortons - or was Sun an AMC Company too ?

Sorry Darloman,
I'm having a few computer issues and have answered this already but lost it. I don't know if my answer will turn up twice.

Anyway, it is a pressed metal badge unique to Sun of the period. A close friend has a Cyclone and I see him this week. I'll take a photo for you.

If you can't find any badges Classic Transfers do a suitable period transfer so at least you have some identification on the tank.

Cheers,

thanks a lot. Transfers are on the tank but badges would be a bonus. The fixing holes can be seen on the photo. will post the measurement between the holes at a later date as the bike is a few miles away at my brothers and he"s not at home.

Hi Darloman,
Good news and bad news. I've taken the tank badge photos as I said but I'm having major computer issues and can neither download the photos nor view any photo already on my hard drive. I can't do much until it is sorted.

Meanwhile, did you know there is a complete, restored Sun Cyclone for sale on eBay? It is for sale by an eBay shop, not auction so doesn't have an auction time limit. There are a range of photos, some showing the metal badge but obviously not as good as a close up of the badge alone. Just search for Sun Cyclone in the Cars & Motorcycles category and its all that pops up.

I'll get back to you when my computer woes are sorted.

Cheers

Pics of that sale bike show the tank badge looks like it could be made from heavy copper sheet ?

Yes, it's certainly a copper /bronze derivative. I tend to doubt pure copper as I think it would be too soft but it's a fairly elaborate pressing that would stiffen the copper up so it could be just straight copper. The word Sun in the middle is of enamel and copper makes an excellent base for enamel work. All in all I think the badge is the most sophisticated part of the whole bike.

Sun had the reputation for making a quality product but looking around my mates Cyclone I see no sign of how they earned their reputation. To my mind there is nothing about it any better than the great mass of British lightweights. There's nothing wrong with it but neither is there anything to raise it above the average. The badge is the fanciest part of it.

Cheers,

Hi Darloman,

As requested, here is a photo of the SUN Cyclone tank badge. Sorry I took so long but my computer issues took longer to sort out than I expected.

Cheers,
