Title: New to restoring
Post by: rtw on September 19, 2017, 11:15:43 AM
Hi folk
Just thought i would do an intro!
A few weeks ago i bought an Excelsior, I have already stripped it apart. Thanks to this forum i have identified it as a 1950 model as the frame Number starts  with  DS.
I need a few things and was wondering if  someone here can advise!
I need
A the little  speedo right angle gear box that fits the brake hub.
Tank knee pads
And the little spring steel plate and knob for the clutch adjustment

I rebuilt a 197 Villiers F/Barnet a couple of years ago, got most of my help from the owners club forum which was free at the time. Good luck  :D

Good luck, personally I would have given it a good clean and oily ragged it, it looks a good find.
those speedo drives come in left and right handed work out what rotation your speedo need.
you will also find they can be staggeringly expensive £75 quid is not uncommon.

Most common source are ex WD stocks so if you used 16H or M20 where you are that might be a start.

Have you considered an electonic cycle speedo? lots of vintage bikes here are using them as a way of keeping inside speed limits.

Ther eis such a thing as the British two stroke club you will find helpful.

Meetens  http://www.meetens.co.uk  are the go to place for Villiers spares, they have everything.
