Title: Smiths speedo as fitted to 73 Bonnie.
Post by: Grunt on July 08, 2018, 07:40:26 PM
Has anyone stripped a smiths speedometer where the trip knob and shaft come horizontally out of the body. I canít get the internals out of the body because of the shaft. I notice that TMS sell the shaft separately so Iím guessing the shaft should pull out of the body, mine however is refusing to budge with lightish pulling. I donít want to put too much strain on it in case this isnít the correct way to remove it.

The trip knob should pull out, however, they're often stuck due to corrosion.

Thanks L.A.B Iíll pluck up a bit more courage and try some silicone lubricant.

The trip knobs don't always fit back as tight afterwards, which seems to be why they are often missing.

All sorted thanks L.A.B. I donít think Iíve eliminated the needle wobble at low speeds but at least it should read somewhere near the correct speed. And the needle returns to zero without giving it a belt.
