Title: 24th international meeting of Motobécane Club de France
Post by: leenane on February 05, 2019, 10:50:53 AM: Hello, I'm Leenane from the MCF club and i live in Brittany, near the Golfe du Morbihan and we hope to see some of our british friends in june during our international gathering.

The MCF (Motobécane Club de France)

Created on January 15, 1997 by a handful of collectors, lovers of the brand and eager to join together in association, the Motobécane Club de France today has about 1000 members spread over all the French departments, including Guyana and Reunion, in neighboring countries and even in Australia, Canada. It represents a fleet of about 5000 Motobecane / Motoconfort, plus 2000 machines of other brands for a total of 7000 machines and became in 2007 the largest French club of lovers of 2 old wheels.
The annual meeting of the Motobécane Club de France 2019 will take place on 22 and 23 June 2019 in Brittany, Pluvigner, in the department of Morbihan. It is organized by the Autos, Motos d'Epoque - Club Atlantique (AMECA) at the Espace Saint Michel in the city center, near the town hall.
This space will be the place of grouping, exhibition, meals and animations. Departures and arrivals of 2 circuits will be on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
Owners of old "classics" of other brands are also welcome to join us if they wish.

I used to be a member of the Tobec club when I had a Z22c and a Z2, nice little bikes,now both back in France, and to show how confused I am my family name is Norman/Breton origin.

I have not been back to france since 2007, you mayfind it hard to believe but since 1980s it has become too much of a pain in the bum to travel to France, so many ifs buts and petty regulations at the Ports.

I am also a veteran of the Tour de France des Motos annciennes.

Are all those Motobecanes etc painted dark brown and beige though? Always seems so.

It is true that many Motobecane were black was a time then brown (light and dark). In the 50s and 60s, it was more like "Putty". But in the 20s and 30s there were beautiful shimmering colors embellished with chrome for the 250, 350 and 500 tumbled. Hoping to have answered your questions, I will make photos on June 22 and 23 and post them for you on this site. Best regards

Motobecane fourstrokes were good little bikes, even the little 125cc sidevalves did sterling work.

It was also possible to choose its color provided you put the price and can wait time to redo the appropriate paint 8)

Hello, some information of the preparation of the meeting:
- already more than 100 registered mopeds and motorcycles
- the friendly arrival of Henk van Kessel, world champion 1974 on Kreidler 50cc (25 podiums in his racing career). He will travel the 900 km from the Netherlands by moped !!! congratulations to the champion and a good example of investment ..... (to be continued)

In a week, registrations will be closed (May 20). 33 French departments are currently represented as well as Australia, Great Britain, Netherlands and Portugal

I struggled to find a French bike over 250 when I was looking about ten years ago, but that looks nice.
I was told they didn't like selling their larger classic stock abroad as there weren't that many left.

When stopped, the driver is positioned behind, lowers the crutch and the ground with his foot and with his hand he takes the loop that is seen above the fender and exerts a movement backwards, this lift the wheel and the crutch pivots. ;)

Post by: mini-me on May 13, 2019, 09:29:11 AM: Thats very true Rex, I had an interest in french bikes of the 1930s for quite a while, once you could get a really nice example for silly money, but the french were not as into older stuff back in the 1970s. They caught up fast, and, lets face it, if our choice bikes were as scarce as theirs we'd be the same.

Its the reason so much old 2 stroke tat is now dumped onto speculating antique dealers these days.

And the much stricter rules governing registration docs over there.

I know how to use one Leenane, it's just that rather than the usual 30-50mmm off the ground that one looks about 175mm!

Staying and eating in France wasn't cheap either, though having the Gendarmes blocking the routes so you didn't have to stop for other traffic was novel..

Thank you also to you Rex for this point of view which is new to me, because I am too used to France ..... However I already went to London (East Dulwich) with my BMW R69 / s in 1971 to see my school correspondent ( Patricia) and I went to Ireland 12 times, but never on a motorcycle, it's for later when the Honda 750 K2 will be restored. I also know Hungary and I plan a tour through the north of Italy and Austria to go see girl in the CSONGRAD (southern Hungary) .... But I understand that the roads (out highways) are dangerous !!! 8)

Post by: mini-me on May 20, 2019, 10:25:23 PM: You have to remeber Leenane that very many of us here who are old bike riders are a lot older than we would like to be, in fact ancient.
I did notice on French bike events I went on that so many were encouragingly younger.

Not to insult France but over the years I found that France changed far too much from the France that appealed to us English, the massive growth in motorways has ruined all the little villages such as I knew down the RN20 on my regular trips to Spain, now hotels, restaurants, shops all shut down. Even Les Routiers. In fact on one of my last vists I had real trouble finding a modestly priced place to eat. I prefer to keep my memories. Je garde mes souvenirs avec plaisir.
