Title: Searching for tank origine .......
Post by: Jean-luc on October 20, 2019, 07:33:14 PM
Gents,

One year ago I bought a French motorcycle in Germany.
It's a Magnat Debon CSS1 from 1931.
This is the last model having a Blackburne engine (so it's almost British ...  :D )

When I bought it it looked like a ... "bitza" ... (lucas magneto, big dellorto carb, ...)

After 1 year searching for original parts, it's a bit better

Anyway, I would like to know where this petrol tank is coming from.
Just to know ....

It seems to be from British motorcycle.
I've searched already a lot on google but didn't find.

Some pictures of the tank ....

Maybe the bottom has been modified in order to fit with the Blackburne engine ??

Not so many have two tapped holes on the side .... and most of the ones I've found having the same shape are having the place for the saddle at the bottom .... or the tap on the side.

Anyway, if you have any idea, please do not hesitate to tell me !!  ;)

Thank you very much !!  ;)

Regards

Looks very similar to a bsa C11 plunger tank to me.

I have no idea what it was originally fitted to, but it looks too long for a C11 tank to me. It may be a photo error, but is there a depression around the filler cap?

No, it's because of the light when taking the picture.
It's flat.

The underside is very reminiscent of a Pre war Matchless,/AJS but if it was it would have an instrument panel in the top.

A C11 would have small screw holes forward of the kneepad holes, but thay might have been filled. Also on the offside underneath were mounts for a bicycle type tyre pump

Hi Jean Luc,
Is the filler cap threaded or bayonet fit?
If threaded is the thread metric or imperial? Same questions about the other threads
The tank has some resemblance to my 1932 OK Supreme ??? Especially the cutaways underneath

Hi John,

At the moment, not being at home, I cannot answer you .... I will check that in two weeks.
I thing the filler cap is threaded, but now ..... not so sure ...  :-[

Anyway, thank you all, I really appreciate your help !!  ;)
