Title: Spark eroding valves BSA 1929
Post by: robbsa on October 23, 2019, 03:28:00 PM
Hi All,

I need to get some slots eroded into my valves for my BSA1929. Got some new valves from BSA Bob? a few years ago but without slots to hold the pin for the valve springs. I'm in the bristol area - tried a company in porttalbot who said they could do it, but have failed to reply to my messages since.

Anyone know of any other options out there?

Many thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,
Recently I rebuilt a BSA G14 BSA V twin engine for a friend and was faced with the same dilemma
I have come across quite a few failures of the keepers for slotted valves and talking to quite a few guys on the USA Cannonball Run last year their experiences were similar and most had opted to convert to collet retainers
On the BSA I searched around for suitable valve caps that would fit the BSA springs
I had some Triumph ones where the tapered BSA spring sat nicely on the inner spring land
Some measuring up to get the correct  position on the stem and turning a simple groove on the valve stems to suit the Triumph collets and job done
