Autojumble / 1930's Albion Gearbox
« on: September 12, 2007, 05:27:56 AM »
Hi all, I'm looking for 2 Albion gearboxes for 1937 500cc JAP engined bikes. I'm looking for a 4 speed foot change, and a 3 speed hand change.
Also any literature relating to Albion Gearboxes, Bowden Carbs, & JAP 500cc twinport singles.

Cheers
Phil

Identify these bikes! / Re: Its a Triumph, but which model ???
« on: May 07, 2007, 12:12:04 AM »
I've emailled in piccies to be added, one of them hopefully shows the engine number, but in the short term, were looking at 1929, side valve, Carbide lights, Claxon horn, hand change, and radial fins on the cylinder head, theres some sort of plunger on top of the magneto drive as well. Somehow, the cylinder head looks different to the Model N, that comes up on google, i think it was Costwold Classics website, that showed one.

Heres a couple of images of a Triumph my Dad is interested in buying, the log book says its 1929, and the registration appropriately bears the letters 'SV'.
We believe its 550cc, but we don't know which model it is.
By the way, the claxon works !!

How do i add piccies ??

Ta for that, found info on the Bowden carb, the one we have appears to match the illustrations.
Not too sure on the Albion Gearbox stuff, although the principle will no doubt be the same, the featured ones are slightly earlier i think. However its more info than i had yesterday which can only be a good thing !!
Did find info on JAP engine rebuilds which will prove useful, and some entertaining articles on period protective clothing, including a winter pilot suit lined with teddy bear !!

British Bikes / Albion Gearboxes & Bowden Carbs
« on: September 11, 2007, 06:12:12 AM »
Hi all, I'm looking for any information regarding 1930's 3 speed hand change, and 4 speed foot change Albion Gearboxes for use with 500cc single cylinder JAP engines.
Once i can identify these 2 gearboxes, i'll also be looking for them as well !!!!
At the moment the learning curve is somewhat vertical.

Also i'm looking for any information regarding 1930's Bowden carbs, jetting, setup parts lists, etc...

Any help much appreciated.
Cheers

British Bikes / Re: Pride and Clark Speedo
« on: September 09, 2007, 02:10:14 AM »
That was a thought of ours, but the teeth are a pecuiliar shape, not what i'd expect for driving off another gear, in a perpendicular or parallel orientation.
The shape of these would suggest that the (possible) mating gear teeth would have a buttress form (a sort of castlated shape), perhaps looking more like a ABS sensor ring off a modern car.
Plenty more conundorums to overcome yet with this project, for instance the Bowden Carb, which seems to be a clever blend of throttle body, & conventional Carburettor. I'll try and add some piccies in a few days of the speedo drive to see what people think.

British Bikes / Pride and Clark Speedo
« on: September 08, 2007, 02:02:02 AM »
As part of a restoration project my dad has bought recently, he has got here a 1930's Pride & Clark 100mph Speedo & drive, but we don't know what is used to drive the speedo drive (does that make sense?).
The drive unit we have has a Tufnel gear with hooked teeth, which appear to have been machined this way. Any suggestions ???
