I have a Triumph Tigress 250 scooter 6v electrics. When I put a multimeter on the battery when the engine is running the readings are all over the place. When I put the sidelights on they calm down a bit,but range from 0.9 to 8v.Any other way to check the battery is charging,or ideas as to why this is happening ?

I have new carb and plugs. With wet plugs I know fuel is getting through.Do you mean condenser John K? The manual says 5 dg btdc for points opening used to being 17 ish on my 2 stroke Lambrettas. Is there such a difference on 4 strokes?

Having trouble firing up my Tigress.Ive got good spark and wet plugs, but only getting the occaisonal pop.Could the auto advance which looks standard Triumph effect starting,or does it come in later ? The scooter was standing for many years and I cleaned the auto advance up,but it could be a little stiff.

Hi Grunt.Ive used Por15 recently. Its like thick paint, you dont have to mix anything, although it does take 7 days to go off.

Well I got it off with a little help of some tin foil wrapped around the nut. I checked the nut with the 1/2 w socket and it dropped in perfectly. :-\ I swear it wouldnt go on,although the tab washer I didnt see might have something to do with it. :-[

Does anyone have an address of a reputable Home for the Bewildered?  ;D

British Bikes / Nut Sizes
« on: December 03, 2018, 08:47:22 PM »
What nut bolt system was used on late 50/early 60s Triumphs? I have a Tigress scooter and cant work out what system was used.I have a front wheel nut which is 0.9 inches 23.3 mm which is apparently 1/2 inch whitworth. Got a whitworth socket set(modern) and the 1/2 socket wont fit. Is this because its modern? Ive heard they dont fit older nuts. This has been one of the biggest delays of the whole project.
