I emailed the seller last week about this project. The forks are BSA WM20 from 39-45, gearbox is 1930's, front hub is 1930's Enfield, back brake plate is Enfield 1950's, Engine is a Morgan 3 wheeler type Jap engine (The cylinder head cooling fins run across the head which is against the air flow for a bike engine), the foot rest is a 1930-50's Enfield and the frame is a very profesionally made custom frame. I also suspect the tank to be a 1920 Enfield item but not sure. I'm not sure how this bike would be registerd because no club can date or or prove its provenance. I suspect that the high price is due to the Engine, these engines can sell for upto £2500 so I would assume the buyer will want the engine and get rid of the rest.

Oh, and the seller didnt reply, I dont think he liked the truth too much, I suggested he would be better of selling items individually as anyone intrested in smaller bits will lose out because of high bids for the engine.

Identify these bikes! / Re: Royal Enfield 4.88 1928?
« on: December 10, 2009, 06:13:28 PM »
Good evening to all Vintage Fans,
I recently bought an Enfield and I need advice on where to look for parts and ID on the Bike,
I attached a foto so you might be able to ID it for me,

It should be a 4.88  according to the information I gathered untill now,
My frame numer is 6009 engine number 5137D
of course I have several questions but the most important for me is to
find out which year it was built, because the parts catalogue I found at Barnstomers is from 1928.
and it showes different parts like, oiltank, gerabox, etc which aren't like my parts.
I only have expierience with german bikes,
so need your help to come further.
I tried to ID my modell through pics in internet but, didn't find the sv modell only ohv modell 2 pics at flickr.

I'm also greatfull for parts sources if you might know the modell,
As you see a lot of main parts missing, but it's great substance for an english project,
At this moment withput picture, folder ist full.

Thanks in advance,
Regards :
Lajos from Hungary

It sounds like a 250cc Model D Does it look like this one? http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Bike%20Directories/Royal%20Enfield%20Bikes/pages/RE-Model-D-39.htm

Autojumble / Re: Francis Barnett Cruiser 1933-39

Hi mate,

I've got 2 Villiers MkIVA cylinders, 1 with piston. They dont have broken fins but are rusty, the one with the piston looks like the bore was greased. If your intrested I can check them out better and send photo's.

Unfortunatly this time last year I had loads of cruiser parts including an engine, damper bits, mudguards, petrol tank etc but no body needed them at the time so I put them on Ebay. Agh well!

Hi John,

Is it the rack that bolts to the mudguard and supports the pannier bag or the rack that supports the panier frame.

Cheers, Chris.

either way I'm intrested.

HI All, I'm restoring a Royal Enfield WD/C, WD/CO and WD/D and need a lot of parts to complete them. I'm open to anything, even model G parts as some are the same as the 'C' and 'CO'.

I have cash or have a number of items to trade if prefered, including 2 1946-7 model G engines, a Velocette GTP engine, a Francis Barnett cruiser petrol tank, front mudguard, and some cylinder barrells. Some Amal 76 and 89 carbs, lucas headlamps and many other smaller parts.

you can leave me a message here or e-mail me at

m3bobby,

I sincerely thank you for the reply.  I found on Ebay.UK a set of frames but I couldn't find the repro bags.  Would it be possible to send me the link of either or both possibly but especially the bags.

Best regards,

Yurko

Here it is,

Unfortunatly I don't think so, it looks like its on the computer but it hasn't been taxed since the 90's.

I think that if you have a valid intrest in the bike, you can write to DVLA and put your case forward for why you wish to contact the registered keeper. i.e. they were involved in an accident with your vehicle and you wish to contact them etc.
