British Bikes / 1979 T140 rear wheel spindle set up ?
« on: September 20, 2022, 04:23:37 PM »
Hi all.
I have been away for a while as sold my last T140, sadly, though have now recently bought one again.
It was in bits, pretty much everything was off it following the previous owners aborted rebuild, hence the pile of bits. As I didn't take it apart, it is harder to put it back together, though doing ok. The problem I have at present is the rear wheel spindle assembly. When I put it back together and tighten it up, the wheel pinches and does not spin freely. I've looked at images of how it should look with spacers/speedo drive etc, and it looks as it should. I've tried various combinations though it always pinches when tightened up.

Any advice/thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot, Edward

British Bikes / T140 regulator/rectifier replacement
« on: July 14, 2019, 09:59:24 AM »
Morning chaps and chapesses.

Can I ask please, what are your thoughts about replacing the regulator/rectifier with something along the lines of a Wassell or similar solid state one ? Who has done this, were there any benefit over the original setup, eg starting/running etc, and how easy/hard are they to fit ?

My bike starts fairly well, only a few kicks needed, though I think would benefit from a card set up, as it doesn't always tick over when up to temp, unless the tick over is raised a little.

Thanks,
Edward

British Bikes / T140 strange oil leak
« on: July 12, 2019, 07:34:00 AM »
I have recently been lucky enough to be the proud owner of a 1979 T140. I owned one a few years ago though sold it, now my garage is happy again with another one in it's place !
All is fairly well, apart from a serious short when the neg terminal wire touched the frame and burnt out 2 wires. A pain, though a fairly easy fix.
What has me scratching my head is an oil leak. An oil leak I get, it's a Bonnie. It's where it is coming from that really puzzles me. There is a fairly constant drip/dribble from the bottom of the head stock, which does not make sense !
I get it's an OIF model, though the max oil level is much lower than where it is coming from, and I don't understand how it gets there, to then leak out, over pretty much everything, as the wind does a great job in covering pretty much everything behind where it leaks from.

Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, or if you have any thoughts, I would be very appreciative for some enlightenment.
Thanks a lot,
Edward
