hi guys,i have had to have weld/repair to my crankcase (gearbox side) on my b.s.a.c15 (1964 ish) I have now got to tap out hole for the gearbox spring anchor bolt,i have the bolt in good order but does anyone know what the threads are,i believe it could be 5/16"u.n.f. is this correct? cheers guys.

hi guys, this engine overhaul is still giving me loads of problems.i have began work on the clutch and having got the new cluth spring nuts I,ve found that they are fractionately smaller than than the studs on mine.it is clear that the clutch has been changed at some time as this is nothing like the c15 clutch seen in all the manuals etc. my chainwheel  has 40-3204 stamped on the back of it,and although it is still a 4 plate and  fits on the shaft/keyway o.k however there is a wobble/play so probably needs needs new rollers but I hav,nt a clue how to strip it  down any further.  I thought about re tapping the studs to fit my spring nuts but can,t get at them.i know its a long shot but if anyone recognises the number stamped on the back of it or knows what this clutch maybe off,then maybe I can progress further.any help would be appreciated,kind regards, steve.

hi guys, didn't get any replies to my last post,so I thought I,d try and clarify my question and see if anyone can help. when I stripped the primary drive side down,the large nut holding the chainwheel and clutch hub only had a thick washer behind it.i have now bought a tab washer,like it shows in the manuals,it has two wide tabs on it  which I presume lock the nut after tightening and one longer thin tab, but the hub doesn't seem to have any grooves anywhere for the tab to fit. the only groove I can see is where the woodruff key fits on the shaft.i really can,t fathom out how to fit this tab washer so it locks the nut.any help would be appreciated, thanks.

hi guys,thanks for all the help in the past,i have a question re the central clutch nut.(the one you need a puller to get off).i am at the stage of refitting now and looking at all the books available it shows a tab washer.but mine just has a thick washer and the nut seems to just fit inside this before tightening.is this correct or am I missing something?

hi guys, I have rebuilt my b.s.a.c15 and have just started her up (she sounds sweet) my problem is I can  select neural 1st and second gears o.k but cant select 3rd or 4th gears any ideas what I have done wrong. (the gearbox all looked good before I put it back together ) any help/advice  would be appreciated.

hi there no wonder i can,t get my c15 started i think i,ve got a serious electrical problem i hope someone can advise me differently, so here goes. i thought i,d got a spark at the plug (well i did have but it didn,t last) i have just charged my battery up before trying it on the bike, with a 6v tester accross the battery termnals its fine but when i turn the ignition switch to either on or emergency start position (new switch  and i,ve tried the old one as well ) the tester light goes  really dim and the c.b lead( black and white) is only sometimes  live and when you open the points by hand you get a spark when the spark plug is earthed to the engine then it just disappears until you disconnect everything and start all over,then you get a spark for a little while. only the battery power has all but diminished now.i have tried two coils , &  two dizzies. i thought maybe the wiring harness was shot but took it off the bike and tested it on the bench putting a tester to each end of the wires and all seems fine except the small rectifier post was only live some times (i,ve wire brushed it all of and now that seems good as well. the only other thing i,m not sure about is the three wires out of the alternator as they  could be connected incorectly but would this really make a big difference,as i thought they were for charging and lighting only. any advise would be helpful,thanks folks

hope you clever people can help. i,m on my first rebuild and posted some questions ages ago and then decided to start from scratch because all i had was a bike that wouldn,t start but just backfired.  Right  the crank/conrod is all good.its had new piston rings and the barrel is sound.(so far so good) i,ve used another cylinder head as i thought there  may be a problem with the valve guides in mine  (although its old it all looks good so i,ve re ground my valves  into it )and also used another rocker box. the valve timing was set on the bench  before the cylinder head was refitted so i believe that its spot on.  its now back in the bike and has really good compression and bright spark. but its not even firing. i don,t think the plugs getting wet . i,ve had the carb to bits on the bench and it all looks o.k. but when its fitted to the bike and  you turn the petrol tap on it floods everywhere through the tickle valve.i,ve just removed the rubber connection between the carb and the air filter and when you turn the engine over petrol is coming out of the carb where the rubber joins the carb.any help would be appreciated.

anyone out there any ideas to help me . my c15  engine has been stripped (valve timing was out-- now corrected) i have fitted new valve guides and reground the valves. its now back in the bike and i am at my wits end why it wont start. there is good compression(ihave used a compression tester) i have a good spark,and i am sure the ignition timing is correct.(i have checked it that many times i am still doing it in my sleep)the only thing i,m not sure of is the carb (i only have one cable which is the throttle cable, the other hole has a spring loadedpush down bar / bolt( it doesn,t look like its got a choke to me)it is spitting at times but  justwill not go. it has been dated by the b.s.a. club as 1965.any comments would be appreciated. oh there is a fault on the engine where the dizzy fits in not a crack but looks like its been damaged.

hello there, i have just started the engine up on my 1965 b.s.a.c15 project.with the risk of sounding a bit dim can anyone  help me please? the oil pump is obviously working as the top end is receiving oil.the oil tank is receiving oil from the brass  return pipes on the rocker box but it seems quite slow to me i.e. a little drip at a time. is this normal or should it be filling quicker ? obviously i don,t want to run it again till i know as i don,t want to cause any engine damage.any advice would be welcome.

can anyone help please? i am working on my first renovation product a 1965 c15 and am nearly ready to give up. i have fitted new valve guides and have good compression ,i have changed the dizzy & coil and have a good spark at the plug . i believe the timing is correct as i have done it that many times but it still won.t start. all it does is backfire into the air filter. any ideas would  help my other problem is actually kicking it over.  with the plug out it is easy but with the plug in the kickstart seems to just slip without the engine turning. any help will be really appreciated,i thought this was going to be a nice retirement project but it has become a real windup.

can anyone help please, i cannot get a spark on my c15 (distributor engine) am i right in thinking that when the ignition is switched on (i have fitted new ignition switch ) that the black and white wire (c.b. side of the coil )should be live  cos it was at some stage but not now . should i be checking the ignition switch ? or the wiring loom. any help would be much appreciated ta.

can anyone help me i bought a 1965 c15 for my first project couldn,t get it started due to timing being out, [it was backfiring] it is a replaicement dizzy,[came with all the other bits] i,ve got the head off,and am trying to time it correctly before trying again .points are opening and closing o.k [with test light] but can;t fathom out when the spark should come is it just before the piston is at t.d.c. i,ve read and read rupert ratio,s book but my points seem to open at a different time each time i turn the engine over.is the dizzy naff? [its not the origional one] or does anyone know an easy way to time it. thanks.

i,m starting my first classic bike renovation (b.s.a. c15) whats the score with unleaded petrol in old engines do i have to put lead additives inthe fuel and if so where do i get it from ? any advice would be appreciated thanks ;D
