British Bikes / Main Jets and Compression Questions
« on: January 28, 2012, 11:13:23 AM »
 :-[G,day Guys,,,

I,ve asked these questions on a couple of other forums but havent got an answer from anywhere yet .
So what I would like to know is , can any of you guys tell me the compression for a 1970 T100C and same year TR6C, stock barrels and pistons, 9.0 to 1 from memory compression ratio, out of the box, meaning new specs.
And the other question is , some of you guys here know that I,ve got the above bikes amoungst others and that the T100C is a twin carb, and before everyone says Wrong, thats how it was ordered from the factory for the West Coast of the USA by Jo Mo.
What I,m trying to find out is the correct main jet size for the twin carbs, I,ve looked online and in two different workshop manuals that I have and have found 4 different sizes.
I just looked up under daytona but found such a big variation ???
Now I could buy 20 or so jets and start testing but I would have thought there would be a spec somewhere, or at least two places that said the same size so I could use as a starting point,,cheers and thanks in advance,,, :-\

British Bikes / T100C rocker box question
« on: September 20, 2011, 11:26:01 AM »
G,day guys,,,
I,ve posted this question on another forum as well as here to try and get a few different idea,s/ answers,,Got a question for anyone that might be able to help , some time ago I read a thread on a forum about rocker box assembly , Meaning the order the thackery washer and thrust washer go together , I seem to remember guys saying that although most models around 1970 had the thackery washer (spring) up against the rocker. Apparently they should be the other way around so as the end or tang of the spring washer doesnt block off the half moon cut out in the rocker causing oil starving.
This is of course for the rockers that arent the earlier drilled oil ways type, from memory the change was late 69 early 70. Also someone remarked that the factory had known about this problem and rectified it by putting the thackery washer against the inside wall of the rocker box but on the factory floor they either didnt no or didnt get wind of it so a lot of bikes were assembled with restricted top end oil flow problems.
Now , what I,d like to no is does this apply to the 500,s as well , I,ve tried to reverse the order in which the washers are assembled , and replaced the 3/8 washer on the nut end of the spindle with no luck, Any help most welcome,,,cheers

British Bikes / Paint Dilemma
« on: June 21, 2011, 12:05:03 PM »
G,day again folks,,,

Have decieded to spruce up one of the 500,s , More cosmetic than mechanical as I did the motor up no that long ago.
Just want to get some opinions on paint,,  this one is a  1970 T100c and the original colour is jacaranda purple with the silver sash down the middle of the tank, as the bike is only 99% original I,m going to stick with the purple but a darker more candy colour, with the silver sash sort of an updated colour,,,can hear the purists bagging me already,, What I,d like to get your idea,s on is what type of paint would you recommend,,, Two Pack,, Lacquer,, Powder Coating,, Acrylic,, ect???? I,m going to paint the whole bike so will probably Powder Coat the frame but the rest I,m not sure yet,, any advise appreciated,,,cheers

British Bikes / Nickel and Zinc Plating DIY style
« on: May 30, 2011, 10:31:39 AM »
G,day Guru,s,,,,

Thinking about buying one of those DIY plating kits as taking all the pieces to a plater is costing me a fortune, mainly because if I take a small quantity , say 20 nuts and bolts or 5 kilo,s it costs the same price, trouble is they sell a Zinc kit and a Nickel kit.
When I get nuts , bolts and small parts done for originality they Nickel them, so I was wondering how much would have come out of the factory Zinced,, for me its a bit hard to tell the difference , but the plater says Nickel is much more durable , so now I,m wondering if it would be worth my while getting the Zinc kit as well as its only an extra $50.00 dollars AU  , but I need to no what is Zinced from the factory......Cheers

British Bikes / Oils aint oils
« on: May 18, 2011, 12:25:27 PM »
G,day folks,,,

Just wanted to get other members views on synthetic oils in our older british bikes , I run Amsoil synthetic in a later model Harley that I have and have to say it does the trick, lasts longer , keeps the engine cooler by about 9 degree,s celcius.
Have mentioned using synthetic oil in older motors with mixed replies, looking forward to any views on this subject with interest,,cheers

Wanted Bikes / Early Triumph Oil Pump (1934)
« on: May 04, 2011, 12:25:34 PM »
G,day,,,,,,   ,would anyone no where I might be able to buy, beg for, or steal an oil pump for my 1934 L 2/1 Triumph.
Have been trying all over the world but having no luck,,,the pump in question may have been used on other makes and models , it is a plunger type oil pump as used by the later 500cc and 650cc and so on, except this particular one the oil feed side plunger of the pump is smaller than the scavange plunger ,  hope this makes sence and any clues on where to find one, or even someone that might no where to get one would be really helpfull...cheers

British Bikes / Triumph Stator / Rotor question
« on: April 30, 2011, 03:05:17 PM »
G,day from Oz,,,back again ,,,,was wondering if anyone could help me , one of my bikes , the  little T100c has the standard RM 21 stator and rotor,,,the other night the new  battery died on me. Checked all electrics and all is ok.
I,m wondering if the RM 23 single phase stator (2 wire) as used in some nortons will fit as an up grade, and if I buy a new stock rotor if its compatable with it , I think that running with the lights on day and night used more than the original could produce, I,m running a tri spark electronic ignition and rectifier, I,ve also upgraded the head light to a 60 watter, being the original setup and 40 odd years old it was probably down on output anyway,, dont want to go 3 phase as the rectifier is new and I checked with tri spark who told me the new rectifier was good for about 16 to 18 amps,, any help would be great,,cheers

British Bikes / Oil Leak
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:46:05 AM »
 :-\ G,day again folks,,,,
I have an oil leak problem and its driving me mad trying to get any information on the subject.
My problem is on the early triumphs ( meaning the Val Page models)1934 - 1936 there is a little button that pops up out of the petrol tank when the motor has oil pressure to the big ends, a tell tale button, early kind of oil pressure gauge.
Here lies my oil leak, after striping down the little plunger assembly and theres no saying it is assembled correctly anyway, I cant see any seal to stop the oil leaking out of the little button that pops up.
Would anyone no if spares are available or if any NOS  replacements might be around the place and most of all does anyone no where I could get any info on how it is supposed to work or repair procedure,,,, this forum seems to be a really good source for my wierd prodlems so heres hoping ,, Cheers  ???
