I have a Jaeger type smiths speedo that drives from the front wheel on my 1936 Excelsior (spade drive both ends)

The cable needs to be about 24 inches long.

Where can I get a reproduction cable made in the UK ?

Any thoughts

British Bikes / Matchless G3 1938 Basic data
« on: May 01, 2012, 09:52:34 PM »
About to start tidying up Matchless G3  (1938) but before I do thought I would see if I could get it to start. It sparks at plug and I have cleaned out Carb
Can anybody confirm:
- Ignition timing Before TDC  in degrees,  inches / milimetres (retarded or advanced)
- Is the magneto advance slack or tight on lever
- Tappet gap inlet / exhaust (presumably at TDC on firing stroke) measured where?
- Correct Spark plug ?

Anybody got any photos of a restored 1938 (or any 30's) G3 they can share.

Thanks

British Bikes / 1936 Excelsior Pathfinder Mudgaurds
« on: January 16, 2012, 04:19:07 PM »
Having started / almost finished the restoration of the above we have found that the existing front mugaurd has been subject to a bad patch repair in past and  is to thin to weld up the holes which are significant.

Any body any ideas on where I can get a mudgaurd made to pattern.

This is not a standard "C" shape as produced by Renovation Spares in UK nor is it fully valanced as per 50's / 60's BSA but has a plain "C" profile across top with a short vertical vallance of about 1.5 - 2 inches (rolled as one piece).

Any ideas.

European and Other Bikes / Dog leg Levers for V50 Mk III
« on: January 11, 2012, 11:25:43 PM »
Having shorter fingers (compared to your average italian it would appear) I would prefer to fit dog leg levers to my V50 III without changing the carriers on the handlebars.
Anybody know of a suitable fitment and source that will not require too much machine work.

European and Other Bikes / Moto Guzzi V50 Starting on 1 cylinder
« on: November 08, 2011, 12:36:58 AM »
My V50 III tends to start on one cylinder from cold and then after about 30 seconds number 2 cylinder chimes in and the bike runs fine and the engine revs through to the redline.
It has new points condensor, plugs, the valve tappets have been set and the carbs are clean and ballanced.
There is no lack of power when running.......
Where do I look next to solve this?
