British Bikes / Finished my '60 BSA A10
« on: February 13, 2011, 02:17:34 PM »
Finally finished this brute.  Now just an A7SS and a B33 to go. Looking forward to the B33 actually because the only frame I could get for it is a genuine Goldstar frame - going to put some noses out of joint, hahaha.  I reckon there's too many Goldies and not enough iron BSA singles on the road these days.  Anyway, politics aside, the A10 rides a treat and I'm just settling out the little 'running-in' type details.  Also attached a photo of how the project looked when I bought it.

All the best everyone,

Autojumble / WANTED: Moto Morini 3 1/2 Parts/info
« on: April 27, 2008, 02:41:03 PM »
G'day,

I have a 1974 Moto Morini 3 1/2 Sport and I was hoping anyone might be able to provide me with any suggestions and/or parts.

Most urgently I require the correct filter housing - the bike had K&N pod-type filters when I bought it and the only proper type of housing I've managed to obtain is too big (for a 500cc I expect).  I'm willing to offer this over-large housing as a swap if desired.

Also, has anyone here had experience with the Morini clutch?  I have a parts list and a service manual for the bike, and the parts list tells me the clutch should have a 'dished' steel plate - but the manual doesn't make any mention of this part at all.  So i wonder if it's even necessary?  The plates sold by North Leicester Motorcycles come with a convex plate apparently, but I can't for the life of me see what use it is.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

British Bikes / BSA A70 - Info wanted
« on: January 08, 2009, 01:51:08 PM »
G'day,

I'm looking for any information about the BSA A70 750cc twin, simply out of curiosity.  If anybody can direct me to any relevent texts/magazines or what have you, that'd be great.  I read an article in a recent Classic Bike, but it was disappointingly frugal with information about the bike itself, choosing instead to focus on the restoration.  I'm mainly keen to learn about the engine and how it may have differed from the smaller unit twins.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,

British Bikes / Square Fours

G'day,

I've got a mate with a mid-fifites Ariel MkII Squaffer engine and he's keen on trying to mount an alternator to one of the crankshafts.  No doubt this is a long shot, but would anyone have seen/tried this?

Cheers,

British Bikes / Royal Enfield Numbers
« on: March 21, 2008, 05:50:30 PM »
G'day,

Does anyone here happen to have a comprehensive list of Enfield frame numbers?  I've just acquired a frame which was sold to me as a Series II Interceptor frame, but I'm not convinced this is what it is (Frame Number 62756).  First of all there is no 'F' prefix which I know the Series IIs have, and secondly there are one or two obvious differences.  The first difference is the lack of a lug welded to the spine-tube immediately behind the steering-head.  If it were only this that was different I would accept that it is a Mk1 Interceptor, as Hitchcocks reckon.
There is another more substantial difference towards the rear of the frame, however, which is causing me to doubt; completely different from the Interceptor frames at all is the looped tubes to which the rear footrests are bolted.  Rather that looping back and being welded above a large-diameter lug, this frame has a wider arc and is welded under the lug.

It probably seems trivial but I don't want to mess about trying to force a Series II Inter engine into a frame it doesn't belong in - after all, it could be a frame for a 700, 500 or even a single-cylinder.

I realise too that Royal Enfield numbers don't necessarily follow any form or logic, but if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

British Bikes / Triumph Trident
« on: December 23, 2007, 10:32:25 AM »
G'day,

I've recently acquired a T150 Trident which I believe is a 1968 model - unfortunately everyone seems to think that there's no such thing as a 1968 Trident, presumably because they weren't sold to the home market until '69.  My question is, does anybody have a reliable list of frame/engine numbers for the triples, starting from 1968?

Cheers,

British Bikes / Lucas Magneto Serials
« on: July 17, 2007, 10:21:19 PM »
G'day,

I have a couple of k2f lucas magnetos for various up-and-coming projects, and im just a bit confused about the serial codes ... of the three k2fs one is stamped "AC" before the numbers, and two are stamped "RO" instead.  Does anyone know what these serials mean?

Thanks,

British Bikes / Royal Enfield Series II Interceptor
« on: July 01, 2007, 08:56:16 PM »
Hey everyone,

I'm in Australia and currently restoring (as the post name suggests) a Royal Enfield Interceptor (Mk. II).  I have the correct British home-market frame, Roadholders, wheels, tank and seat and tinware.  Essentially I have everything BUT the important thing - the engine, which I'm led to believe was removed and put into a sidecar outfit (and subsequently blown-up).

My question regards the availability of these engines.  Any research I've done has indicated that there weren't many made to begin with, and most went to the USA.  So if anyone, British, Australian or American has any idea how common (or uncommon) and/or how expensive these units are, I'd appreciate ANY information at all.

Thanks,
Blue
