British Bikes / commando charging q
« on: November 05, 2010, 11:31:56 PM »
ive a mark 3 commando , while testing the charging system i got irratic readings on the multimeter, holding at 12v (battery was charged ) ,with small revs it seemed to drop in power but when given a bigger rev and revs were dying the volts went up to near 13 volts, im presuming this is wrong an am putting off heading to a show tommorow over it, shows 50 miles of a journey so im weary that it will get there and home,

bike had been lying up for 5+ years .
any input?

British Bikes / norton jubile questions
« on: February 09, 2007, 05:31:58 AM »

ive been working on my little jubilee twin and have hit the odd snag , the last lad that had it ran amok with hermatite or some other red stuff all over the engine ,he must have poured it on, it was even on valves.luckily thebike was only ran for a few minutes after this but unluckily itsthat bad ive had to get new gaskets and strip the engine . my problem (at the moment) is with the clutch drum ,in the centre of this there is a metal plate (which was cracked enough that  i'll have to weld it/make one and underneath that theres a cushdrive of sorts ,the rubbers in this are extremly soft ,as if chemicals have went to work on them ,there was a lot of waste rubbr around the area , soft and mushy bits are not good for the engine and this is what led me to go as far as the cushdrives.does anyone know of a fix or a place to get replacment parts?.i know the bike was made around the norton/villers era so maybe some villers clutches would be the same (guessing there) .im also looking for rims for the bike and 2 exausts as the originals have a bit of rust o them ,i almost bought a set on e bay but the price went a bit too far to justify .help apprieciated .

British Bikes / triumph trophy oil problem
« on: November 06, 2006, 08:58:59 AM »

i have been having a heck of a time with a newly bought 1965 triumph trophy 650 and am looking for advice.
the oil is pumping from the tank to the engine fine but not returning back , the result is that thesump is filling and its leading to clouds of blue smoke from the exausts and the head gasket is starting to weep, theover flow in the centre underneath of the engine is letting a lot of oil out too. i checked external oil lines, inspected the oil pump/cleaned it completely (including the little ball bearings ) and dont know where to look next.
anyone expierianced this type of problem before?.
the bike had been unused for a fewmonths, i have drained the sump several times .
thanks in advance

British Bikes / what would you reccomend
« on: May 10, 2006, 05:41:21 AM »

i was brought up on the old jap bikes but always wanted a british one. im looking for advice on the choices available.i would prefer somthing from late 50s to earley 60s .i am good at mechanics but would still like somthing that is reliable .being able to do 60-70 mph without too much strain would be nice too.id realy like somthing like an ajs7r but belive the prices are wild.
i know its a vague type of question but im hoping for a bit of pointer in the right direction.
thanks
