British Bikes / Magneto timing
« on: January 13, 2010, 04:02:02 PM »
I need to re-time the magneto on my B31 as it has been off for repair.

I will be using the rod down the plug hole method, as the cylinder head is fitted.

Any pointers most greatfully received.

Cheers

The Classic Biker Bar / People

I was reminded recently about how rude some individuals can be to complete strangers!

A few years ago I bought my first British bike a B31.

At a local show a guy a good few years older than my 40 years was exhibiting the same model B31 as my own. So I struck up a conversation with this guy. We chatted away about B31's for about half an hour. Then I mentioned I had Jap bikes. Jap C**P he exclaimed and promptly stood up and walked away without another word!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all

Just read a great book "The Original Wild Ones Tales of the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club" by Bill Hayes.

Very interesting read. Not drugs and fighting and 1%ers more history and how, who and where.

For anyone interested:

ISBN-13:  978-0-7603-2193-5

Japanese Bikes / CB550

Check the headers fit the manifolds and check the silencer brackets line up with the brackets  on the bikes frame.

The 550 F series was fitted with a 4into1 as standard.

The 550K3 was fitted with a different style of 4into4 to that fitted to the 500 and earlier non UK spec 550's. Also if memory serves the K3 was fitted with an accelerater pump to no.2 carb.

Once you know the exhaust fits check the main jets on the carbs and have the carbs ballanced.

British Bikes / Triumph colour
« on: December 13, 2007, 01:23:10 AM »
A friend of mine is restoring his T100. Thirty years ago he threw out the bikes original mudguards with the original colour still on them. He swears the valences on the rear mudguard had dark blue stripes on them (the bikes colour being blue). Oh how he wishes he had kept them.
When he first restored the bike thirty years ago he made an exact copy of the bikes original colour scheme. People have been telling him ever since that the dark blue on the side of the mudguards is incorrect
Restoration guides appear to show no stripeing on the edges of the mudguards. Also the guides suggest the centre stripeing should be black and not dark blue.
Are there any Triumph experts who can help put this matter to bed please?

British Bikes / Triumph/BSA clutch conversion
« on: October 09, 2006, 02:49:24 AM »
I am looking to convert the clutch on my B31 to a Triumph item.

Does anyone know of suppliers who stock these parts new please?

I know of one supplier who sells them but it would be nice to compare prices.
