British Bikes / Bantam B175 Crank re-building.
« on: April 12, 2017, 07:24:29 PM »
I think my big end maybe on its last throws....the engine vibration that normally comes in at 50...is now coming in at 40mph and harsher.

I have found a guy that will re-build it but he cant balance it...is balancing strictly necessary on single cylinder crank.

I have a tool to measure the clearance in the conrod bearing without stripping the engine..12mths ago is was ind 2 thou inch...3 months later 4 thou...now its 8thou inch...I suppose its possible the needle roller bearing in the little end...that was new 6 months ago...will take a look at the weekend.

British Bikes / Cheshire/Merseyside meeting points.
« on: March 24, 2016, 09:14:27 PM »
Hi guys...I'm new to motor cycles just got my first at 63...turned out to be quite an uphill road for me...its a humble little Bantam...

But I love old British bikes in general and would love to have a ride out on my bike now I have it sorted.

I wonder...are there any likely places where I can meet up with like minded riders on say a Sunday afternoon around the Cheshire/Merseyside area.

British Bikes / BSA Bantam misfire and sparking pionts.
« on: January 16, 2016, 06:39:17 PM »
Hi guys...still trying to get this my first ever bike back on the road.

To it for a test ride last weekend...spoilt by a bad misfire the bike was jumping with it and didnt like high RPM.

When I took the points cover off and ran the end I could see constant blue sparking at the contact faces on the points.

I thought I need a need condenser...it came today...fitted it...no better still sparking visible even in day light.

Its a very easy starter as well.

And Ideas guys its a B175 Bantam.

British Bikes / BSA Bantam Gearbox Question.
« on: December 28, 2015, 05:49:54 PM »
Hi guys...I know my bike is not a vintage bike but you guys are so knowledgeable I thought I would ask.

Its a 4 speed B175 1970.

I am putting the 2 stroke engine back together after fitting new seals and roller bearings.

Got the crank end float spot on with 4" thou end float....but when trying a test assembly before applying on the case sealant.

I found I had no end float on the gearbox shafts...in fact it is ever so slightly putting a pre load on the shfts if I bolt them up...

I can see no way of adjust ment...is this clearance normally pre set...

I am presuming there should be some??

Be grateful for any advice.

Any suggestions on how I may contact any of these owners.

I am a member of the Bantam Owners Club but see non from Runcorn in the list of members.

Hi all...the attached picture is on my late Father In Law on his beloved motor Cycle approx date is 1950.

My wife and I would love to know what make and model of motor bike it is...I wonder if anybody can ID it for us.

I think it may have been taken at New Brighton on the Wirral Merseyside UK.

Ken was a despatch rider during WW2 serving in France.
