British Bikes / triumph daytona

my latest project is a triumph unit 500, its a 1971 model after stripping it back to the bare frame so it can be coated, dismantling the swinging arm is proving to be a headache, the book says take off the end threaded bolts (with grease nipples on) then take the spacers and gaiters off then the arm drops out, not so in my case, once the bolts are taken out the spacers and gaiters will not budge, tapping the arm or trying to prise the spacers -gaiters out dosent seem to move them, and not wanting to damage the arm, gaiters centre spindle etc would like first to ask advise as I am aware at least one member used to look after these bikes on a professional baisis thanks in advance for any much appreciated advice

British Bikes / bsa lightning
« on: September 23, 2018, 10:55:15 AM »
my 1969 lightning has been professionally rebuilt and now on the road, it starts fine, and runs fine, but when its fully hot, stopped then re started its a pig to get going, it has brand new consentric  carbs, the correct jets set to the makers settings, but the plugs always look sooty and damp, one thing that has been pointed out is there is no heat spacers between the carbs and manifold, just a gasket, could this be the problem? or would dropping the needle in the carbs one (last) notch help? thanks in advance for any advice and help.

I have been offered a 1972 tiger 100, its a import with high style exhausts, it will have a close ratio gearbox and am wondering if its suitable for normal road use or will it be revving to high for pottering about at 60-70 mph and general road use?

British Bikes / 1969 bsa a65
« on: October 03, 2017, 08:41:20 PM »
my bike is now on the road and running well, my only niggle is the speedo, it shows 80mph when its doing maybe 50 mph, the clock is defo in mph, the drive I think is original to the bike, the drive and rear sprockets have been checked and are as the book, the drive as far as I can see has not got the 20 to one stamped on it, that the book suggests, is there any other way to check?

British Bikes / bsa lightning carb set up
« on: January 29, 2017, 06:22:48 PM »
my 1969 bsa lightning approaches completion, engine, professionally rebuilt, electronic ignition etc, brand new amal concentric carburettors, correct for the model, the bike is bog standard, with the original type pan air filters etc the bike starts and runs but takes a bit of work sometimes, when stopped it doesn't always start again without a bit of messing about, it has not been tried on a run yet, the carbs are jetted correctly to the makers manual and the makers set up directions have been used, the needle position 1  the confusion is, is that position from the bottom of the needle, or the top? can anybody help? thank you in advance, it would be great to get the bike to start easy, hot and cold, and not be such a pig

British Bikes / bsa a65 lightning

I have spent 2 years rebuilding a 1969 bsa lightning and it now is ready to ride, however due to a hand/finger issue I cannot operate what seems to me as a rather stiff clutch, its new and so is the cable, does anybody know is its possible to in any way make it lighter and more usable for a invalid oldie like myself or have I got to get rid and forget about british bikes altogether? thanks in advance for any ideas  :-[

hi I am a new member, my project is a 1969 bsa lightning (export model) the bike is very near completion and I have purchased a couple of water slide transfers one for the frame and one for the top of the tank, does any member know the best way to seal these, to stop them peeling/scraping off? thanks in advance
