The Classic Biker Bar / MOT change of rules for imports.
« on: August 22, 2017, 03:38:31 PM »
Just lifted this from a well known forum.
May help people with NOVA bikes if it is true ? An API Lamby is an import Lambretta probably from India.

QUOTE.

Just been to my local MOT station to get my import API Lamby motd prior to sending off for its registration. Had the fun of driving 10 mile with no plates on, only to get to the centre to be declined.
Apparently there are "new rules".
The gist of them is that even though I had my insurance docs, frame number and engine number and my dating letter from the LCGB - they wouldn't MOT it.
Apparently you need the old reg details, or a NOVA document which states the date of first reg, or a letter from the manufacturer confirming the age.

Autojumble / 12 Volt Coil testing
« on: August 20, 2017, 04:15:56 PM »
My bike is in many bits as I am building it out of boxes. I have two matching 12 volt coils which are standard for the A65. Is there any way  I can bench test them before I polish them up ready for a refit on the restoration. Thanks.  :D

British Bikes / 1972 OIF A65

My basket case is coming on. I have found the clocks, which show 43,000. The barrels are now off and the piston rings are a bit loose on the standard pistons. What did surprise me, there is only the slightest ridge on the top of the barrels. My friend who builds engines had a look and is of the theory that new rings will do the job. I am quite happy just to put a new set of standard pistons in. Do these barrels last this long with regular servicing. ( or is the speedo from another bike )  Observations please.

British Bikes / Newbie from Southend area
« on: August 01, 2017, 05:48:56 PM »
New to Forum. Just acquired a basket case 1972 oil in frame Thunderbolt, full restoration required. Will need lots of help from Forum members. It arrived today in boxes and bags. Had to get the window cleaner to help me get the engine out of the van ( heavy ). Booked the frame in for powder coat and will start pricing up wheel rebuilds, tyres etc or good second hand. I have restored a 1954 A10 which went to a good home.
Had a quick look at engine, the pistons are original with 43,000 miles, the rings a slapping about on the piston. Will need someone local to rebore and supply pistons please. I attend the bike meet most Saturdays at the Shepherd and Dog, Brays Lane near Rochford, Essex. If anyone has any parts that are in good condition please let me know. I understand that most of the bits from the oil in frame Triumph fit. Have cash can travel a bit. Thanks for reading my first thread.
