Identify these bikes! / Re: Can anyone identify this bike?

I wouldn't know what the bike is, but it was registered in London between May '34 and Aug. '35.

I don't know where you are, but Google and speak to the bloke at Surrey Cycles. He's very Knowledgeable.

Following removal of any protruding jets, undo the large capnut a couple of turns. Find a deep socket (or similar) about the same diameter as the slide. Slip this in the slide end and gently compress the whole lot in the vice. Once it moves you can unscrew the capnut a bit more and repeat the process until free. You can't effectively clear the pilot drillings without removing the jet block.

That certainly rings a bell John.

Whether the bike has a chair or not it's still being ridden.

That makes sense, thank you. It's so obvious I'm surprised I never worked it out for myself.

That's what immediately came to mind Ian, but I couldn't see the need on a small two stroke.

An interesting find. For the benefit of the completely daft, what's the cable going into the front of the head?

More likely to be crap in the drillings.

British Bikes / Re: Carburettor spacer and gasket

Tufnol is fairly soft and should be good enough on it's own if the faces are flat and sound. That spacer in the picture looks very hard and I would use gaskets with it. I'm no expert so weigh it up for yourself or ask the supplier when you order it.

I can only say that I have never had any issue with Amal spares that I've bought from Surrey Cycles.
They're on line and helpful on the phone.

British Bikes / Re: Passenger insurance
« on: June 20, 2019, 05:36:43 PM »
What they were probably saying is that carrying a pillion does not invalidate your insurance, but the passengers themselves are not covered. If you regularly carry a pillion, particularly someone known to you, I would get cover. It may be cheaper for them to take out a personal accident policy.

If that's the case, I assume they were shipped out of the factory in primer and possibly unassembled. No point in going to the expense of painting them green, knowing the colour would be changed. Also you can't effectively paint an assembled bike.

Probably confirmed by the fact that they had their own range of frame numbers.
