If yo give them a wallop from above with a heavy hammer, this may be enough to free them inside the sliders -

Wow.....and who thought back street bodgers were a dying breed.....

You have no cast iron statistics or sales figures to rely on, therefore it's merely your "opinion" and an unsubstantiated one at that.
I have a 1946 Norton registered 30th Jan 46....and know of several other late 45 bikes-early 46 bikes....so challenge accepted and completed. NEXT !

And, strictly speaking, approx 95% (?) of '1946' model Nortons are ex-WD bikes,
Actually helping folks is what these forums are all about...

A sweeping and unsubstantiated statement...and me pointing them in the right direction of what was standard specification isn't helping him then ? ......wheras you ruminating and sowing doubt is ? Oh well... enjoy your existence, if you can call it that.

I can't help thinking you are talking about the upright box - for 1946 & 1947 - enclosed and with the round clutch adjuster cover ?

Would the OP here bike have had such a box, they are generally shown with the dolls head box that early ??  Did we ascertain also that this bike was manufactured in 1946, and is not a refurbed WW2 bike 1st registered in 1946 ?

Wrong again...the 1947 box had a lozenge shaped clutch adjuster cover....the '46 box was a one year ONLY box with the circular disc cover.  But its irrelevant anyway as looking at Tidyrobs other post his bike is an ex WD bike and not a '46 produced bike anyway.

The outer case and the clutch adjuster cover are totally different....even a 5 year old kid would see the difference let alone a rivet counter  ::)

The near 100,000 boxes built for WW2 bikes aren't so different ?
Likewise 1930s versions.
??

They are if you want the correct box for 1946 and not an ex WD box.....simples

Rob,

is it for your 1946 16H ? ...if so it's a one year only gearbox as the cover changed for 1947.

British Bikes / Re: Identifying my Coventry Eale Motorcycle
« on: December 27, 2017, 08:47:00 PM »
I'm restoring a Coventry Eagle motorcycle, I bought it in bits so I do not really know how much is original
Can anyone identify the year of my bike, the frame serial number is 12623. Its got a sports motor, I guess its 172cc.

Many thanks for any help.

Cheers
Simmo

Hello Simmo,

I have a 1931 Coventry Eagle and it's frame number is in the low 14000's ...I know it was registered on the 18th May 1931 ...so I would guess at  your bike being a 1930 model.

I don't believe there is a Marque Specialist anymore for CE at the VMCC...however you could try John Hodson (former VMCC Marque specialist) at his website http://coventryeaglemotorcycle.org.uk/

I'm on the lookout for a pressed steel carrier to replicate as mine is missing, unfortunately I don't have any spare CE parts to swap though.

Regards,

Martin

Try Renovation Spares in the UK : renovationspares@mail.com and ask for Simon Stephens. They manufacture most makes and models of mudguards or can make to a drawing or pattern.

What's the big deal with having the No 28 ? surely the provenance of your 1911 Humber doesn't solely rest on this ? If it's a veteran , it's a veteran, and can be allotted any number by any club as they so choose ....the No 28 isn't a right for you to have.

BTW I am an ex Sunbeam Club member and have no axe to grind or banner to wave with the Club.

Frank, strangeley enough, that's what they told me as well when I placed my order too ! Hope your experience is better than mine, although the carb arrived in the end, good job I wasn't desperate for it to finish the bike. Regards, Martin

I ordered one for my Norton Big 4 and had to wait nearly 9 months for it......apparently they were waiitng for the components to arrive from their suppliers before they could put it together and despatch it........

British Bikes / Re: Triumph Bronze Head
« on: October 06, 2012, 08:51:32 PM »
Runesika,

Triumph didn't cast the heads in 1939 either...they were cast by Birco on behalf of Triumph as was this 1946 head. I'm sure Rob Stockdale could confirm this if you ask him.

Just goes to show there's a lot of people out there with more money than sense !
