If you want a BSA 125 then buy one  . They're not uncommon and usually some for sale on Ebay, small ads etc.

Hunting around an Italian jumble for parts for an old Guzzi? Most definitely beats sitting on a beach (but then most things do, IMO!)

Did Veloce do that sort of work while you waited? I'm impressed.
On the other hand, I recall going to buy some essential part from the local bike shop and being told he never had it (surprise surprise) and had to order it from the works, so come back in four weeks.
The truly sh*te service we put up with in those days!

Yep, I'd agree with the Triumph.

Funny thing about Japs is that they're only "classic" when they're show standard and original.  Show some rust, dirt and mods and they're just another old clunker no-one wants.

Eight years must be a record for a follow-up post though!

Stick it on Fleabay with a starting price of say £1900, put plenty of  obligatory"barn find" references in the ad and you may get lucky, but there's a valuable lesson here....to make money out of old bikes means research and experience.
Unless you chance on something really  good, it's a game for enthusiasts only, and if you somehow believed that old Ajay was an "RS1" then that's clearly not you.

Best of luck with that then.
Well built bikes though they are, the prices have always seemed to be lower than other similar bikes probably due to the somewhat stolid performance. I'd expect one to be in pristine (or at least, very good useable) condition for that price.

British Bikes / Re: BSA 1955 B31
« on: June 14, 2016, 08:58:46 AM »
I have recently purchased a 1955 B31 ad I am having a problem with the carb in as much as it will not shut down although the slider is at its bottom most position, it has new gaskets all round  but I suspect air is getting in from somewhere, or could this be another problem.

When you say "not shut down" do you mean the tick-over stays too high or the engine does not stop (some people like the engine to stop on a totally closed throttle...I don't know why but there you go)

British Bikes / Re: Triumph TRW oil ?
« on: May 23, 2016, 05:34:46 PM »
Go to the local shop/store and buy the cheapest 20/50 or similar. It'll work just fine and will still be 100X better than oil was when the bike was made.

Fit the 80MPH job then....you'll never need the extra 20 MPH anyway!

Isn't it the same little speedo as used on a variety of 1960s lightweights, from Bantams to LE Velo's?

Any chance of a pic? Pre-war Red Hunters are something special....

Personally, I'd just use the best condition one on the basis that they're so close in design and age that it may well have come from the factory like that anyway.
Alternatively Google a parts list for 1937 and see if the oil line has been added (or even deleted!) for that year.

+1 for heat, preferably oxy acetylene.
Don't use WD40 though, it has it's uses as a lubricant but is pure crap at a release agent. PlusGas is far better, though there are others as good on the market now.
