Classic Motorcycle Sport / Re: ageing bikers

I expect the poor bloke drank too much of that wonderful vin rouge, crashed his bike on some wonderful French road, and when someone found him they did the wonderful "me no understand" Gallic ignorant shrug and left him there.
Yes, I have ridden there, several times, but I'd far rather ride in the Wales Scotland, the West Country or a myriad of other  places in the UK.
French grass really isn't any greener, despite all the "Year in Provence" type crap... ::)

British Bikes / Re: Triumph T90 Amal Carb query
« on: February 04, 2016, 08:33:00 AM »
If it was fitted to a 'Taco, it would be a two-stroke carb, and they ain't the same as a carb for a four-stroke. My old Pursang had a Spanish copy carb and it was sh*te to be honest.
Nice bike, the T90, and I'd spring for a new/reconn'ed carb of the correct type if it was mine.

British Bikes / Re: BSA Bantam misfire and sparking pionts.

What you need to do is to look at another bike to see if your sparking is "normal".
The capacitor you bought wasn't a BSA NoS item, was it? They don't last forever regardless of whether they're being used or not.

Some people have a bad experience and won't do it again.
In the early days of Ebay I listed a piece of chrome tank trim with a UK postage charge of £4. Someone from Alaska of all places bought it but didn't answer any Ebay contact requests. Luckily the shipping charge of this little piece was under £4. Problem was (for him) it was surface mail, and took weeks to get there, and yet he left me bad feedback as a slow sender.
Some Americans don't quite get just how big the World is outside their own borders...

Wonder how old Bently (sic) Eight is doing in France?
Shame I missed all this when it was live, as it looks like the pseudo-Francophile would have been fun to wind up. "None more enthusiastic than a convert" as the old saying goes.

So did the OP buy the Lodola or not? The DVLC seem more concerned about the NOVA issues than the HMRC themselves, but then we can thank all the free-movement Europeans and their VAT scams on new cars for this little piece of red tape nonsense.

I agree. Ever noticed how so many millions from countries with more hours of sunlight and a warmer climate than the UK can't wait to get here?  ;)

Ozzies are great people, and even OK to talk to when they're not crapping on about how great it is back home. Worse than bloody Yorkies, and that's saying something... :D

Funny old world. Some blokes (like this) can design and build a bike almost from scratch, and yet others are ignorant enough that they need to go on line and ask what oil or tyre pressures their Indian-built Enfield needs.
Clearly your dad's one talented man.

Shame, but I know your problem. I have my car and bike mags going back to the days when I used to spend my paper round money on them. I used to refer back and look for specific articles once, but since the Interwebby came along, there's no point as all you need is instantly available.
I guess the kids will have the job of dumping them all one day... :'(

You don't contact those marque experts, the VMCC do, when you send the completed forms in to the VMCC office. Where do you get your information from? :-\

They recently dated my old German Triumph for me, and prior to that, my 1969 Honda Black Bomber, so to say that they only do British bikes is bollix.
The DVLA requires independently-verifiable evidence (ie not just taking the owner's word for it) so maybe the VMCC has no records (although I find that somewhat hard to believe too).
"Trying to harvest bulk money from jap ownership". WTF??

Yep, just spring for a new set, they're not expensive.
Don't bother with taper rollers either. No real benefit, especially in a 60mph 350 heavyweight single, and you'll likely find the fork shrouds don't fit properly any more if you fitted them as the yokes end up further apart.
{Unless you buy those thinner taper roller races designated for light use only, and that's just false economy}

I like them too. Well worth spending some time on, if only to p*ss off Indian Polaris owners about who's got the "real" Indian... ;)
