The bevel drive problem is another Net myth, isn't it? As I understand it if you use the wrong/no oil it soon wears, but that goes for most things.
Should think the Urinal (fitted with some real ball races) bevel would last well though.

I used to have a Binks spray gun...wasn't bad either. ;)

My advice would be to get it running first, then worry about the appearance and possible up-grades. When it's running OK you can then decide what it needs (or what you want it to have) otherwise you're just chucking money at it because some bloke on the 'Net said so.
Most unwise.

Here-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXCELSIOR-TALISMAN-TWIN-1953-ONWARDS-WIPAC-ELECTRICAL-SERVICE-DATA-SHEETS-/181042409989?nma=true&si=7o7vFMbLs4idhOeDWZeXbGqGs6Q%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

As I said some time back it's basically the same genny as a common D1 etc Bantam, so buy one of those, these service sheets, and modify it if you have to.

Long time since I've seen one of these bikes, but as far as I remember it never had "Excelsior" on the covers anywhere. You do realise it's nothing at all to do with the old US firm of Excelsior, don't you?

I'd be interested in a typical ball-park figure for a tank too.

Nice work. Anything but use the Indian-made cobblers for sale on Ebay etc, so best of luck.
Incidentally I don't think there's a "void" of British craftsmanship really. It's just that riders/bikers/restorers being cheap-skates would rather pay 200 quid for shiny tat than 300 quid for quality. Sadly. :(

Always makes me wary when someone describes themselves as an "engineer" when they're selling a bike. "Engineer" is a broad term, and while he may be a time-served skilled mechanical fitter (in the true sense of the word "fitter") he could also be someone who services dishwashers, installs software upgrades or even designs space rockets, none of which would give him any skills or insight into how an old engine needs to be put together.
Then again, the old joke about mechanics' cars is very true too... ;)

Looks like it's coming on well though.

No guide for old bike prices as the condition can vary too much. Bike like that's got to be worth £3500 all day long and £4000 on a nice sunny day...

No such thing as average mileage on a classic as condition, history, extras, running etc count for more. Then again, it would be a real optimist who'd believe a Smiths/Veglia set up would still be running after forty years of Meriden's finest vibrations.
A bit late for my tastes, but there's always a market for a good T140 as the spares are available, dead easy to work on and a good ride too.

If he's a big knob in the BSA club then I'm glad I sold my last BSA some months ago. He may be right or wrong in his understanding of the pump and valve workings, but what a condescending arse he sounds. :-\

, the ebayer has sold 20,000 says SRM (a company i have a lot of respect for) are talking out of there arse when they say dont fit ,and he would recomend the fitting (20,000 at £38 im not surprised but sounds like bull shit to me )

Want to rewrite that? Is SRM the seller? How did SRM get involved then?

Without knowing where in the World you may be, it's impossible to say. A search of good old Ebay (include finished sales too) should give the best indication.
