Hi Guys,
another picture of some bikes I've been asked to identify by a visitor to the site.  The one at the back may be an AJS?  But I am stumped by the other one.  Can you help?

Can anyone help me.  I've been sent this picture by a relative of the lady on the bike and we're trying to find out what bike it is.  It's a good quality photo, but I just don't recognise the bike.  Do you?

Can anyone identify the bike in this great photo?

If you can, update this posting rather than sending me an email, and I will make sure the relatives of the gentleman find out.

British Bikes / Burman gearbox - 3 speed and reverse
« on: November 10, 2009, 10:58:31 AM »
Can anyone shed any light on what this gearbox might have been used on?  It's a Burman box, with 3 forward and one reverse gear.  It's taking up valuable space in my garage....

It has a flat mounting.  The number stamped on it is G104 E50.

Help please...!

Thanks

British Bikes / Two wires on my stator
« on: June 29, 2009, 03:23:42 PM »
Guys,
am just finishing my first restoration (picture attached).  Everything is fine except for the charging system.  The stator that came with the bike has just two leads (green/yellow and green/white).  The wiring diagram and harness are both expecting three leads from the stator (green/yellow to coil, green/white to rectifier and green/black also to rectifier).  Can anyone advise on whether this alternator can be made to work in this environment?

Cheers

British Bikes / How does my A65 breathe?
« on: September 08, 2008, 05:57:15 PM »
Can someone help me....?

Took my 1966 A65 Spitfire Mk3 out for its first decent run the other day.  Only to find my primary chaincase overfilled with oil after 20 miles or so.  This caused the clutch to slip and a good dousing of oil over the rear left of the bike...

I am pretty confident that I didn't overfill the chaincase. It has been suggested to me that perhaps the main oil reservoir had been overfilled (perhaps due to some oil having wet-sumped before I filled it?).  My question is, if this were the case, where does my engine breathe?  I cannot find any reference to this in my workshop manual.  Does it breathe into the primary chaincase?  If so, then it may explain my problem.  If not, where did my surplus lil come from....??

Thanks

Nigel.

British Bikes / Tips for glueing Triumph Tank Pads please...!
« on: August 26, 2008, 11:32:09 AM »
Guys,

have had a lovely paint job done on my 1968 T100SS tank (at Armstrongs in Cricklade, Wiltshire).  Am now about to glue on my nice new tank pads and want to make sure I don't mess it up...

Does anyone have any tips on the best way of doing this?  What is best type of glue?  I was contemplating evostik.  And what technique to use to avoid excess glue spreading out beyond the pads onto my nice new paintwork...

Help...!

Cheers

British Bikes / BSA A10 Head Gasket
« on: May 26, 2008, 11:52:35 PM »
I have been asked a question that I need some help with..  I understand that there are two alternative head gaskets available for BSA A10s - solid copper and composite.  Can anyone advise on which models/years these should be used - or are they interchangeable? In particular I am interested to know which is right for a 1951 Golden Flash

Thanks for your help.

Nigel.
