British Bikes / BSA C15 mainshaft bush. Phosphor Bronze OK or not?
« on: January 23, 2024, 11:59:25 AM »
Hello,
the mainshaft bush on my BSA C15 is very worn and is also loose in the timing cover.  I understand that the original bush was sintered bronze - but would it be OK to turn up a new oversize bush in phosphor bronze?

Thanks for your help

British Bikes / what is the purple oil in my BSA RGS
« on: June 09, 2018, 03:57:59 PM »
Folks,
i've come across some oil I have never seen before.  I have a recently bought A10 Rocket Gold Star and am changing the oil.  I have drained the tank, but have found that the existing oil is a very bright blue/purple, quite sticky oil. I haven't come across this before.  Does anyone have any ideas what this oil might be and what precautions I might need to take before refilling?
Thanks PeteR

British Bikes / Removing Eddie Dow Brake Plate
« on: May 11, 2016, 01:12:01 PM »
Aaagh.  Can someone please help me, I am feeling pretty stupid at the moment.
I have an Eddie Dow Duetto front brake fitted to my Gold Star.  I want to check the brake pad condition so have removed the front wheel.  But I cannot for the life of me see how to remove the brake plate from the hub.
I would have expected a central nut holding it on, but there is not one there.
Is it a press fit?  I have given it a bit of gentle persuasion but no sign of any movement and do not want to force anything.

Does anyone have any experience of these?

Thanks in advance for any support.

P.S. Will take a photo and add to post.

British Bikes / Spitting Tiger Cub
« on: June 01, 2008, 08:54:00 PM »
Hello guys.  I have a 1963 TIger Cub that I guess should have a Zenith carb?  However, someone has fitted a monobloc to it.  It starts well, and ticks over fine.  However, when the throttle is opened, there is a lot of intermittent spitting though the carb - but the engine does seem to run "OK" despite this.  Does ayone have any ideas as to what may normally cause this?

Thanks Pete

British Bikes / One Blue Silencer...
« on: March 28, 2008, 11:59:08 PM »
Some advice please.  I have a 1968 Triumph T100SS in pretty good condition all round.  It has had some new silencers added at some point in its recent past.  I noticed today that the left hand silencer is colouring.  I have always believed this a sign of mixture weakness, but as I have a single carb, I don't see how this would affect one side only.  Does anyone have any clues as to what I should be looking for here?

Many thanks for any replies.

British Bikes / K2F Magneto Question
« on: November 10, 2006, 08:34:05 PM »
Before I start, I know I should know the answer to this already...
Have just acquired an old Triumph twin fitted with a K2F magneto.  Have taken cover off and have found bits of broken brushes and a spring beneath cover.  SHould this be a spring with a brush at each end? If so, are the brushes purchasable from a suitable supplier?

Thanks for your help.
