Hi Beardy
I used a 21in. WM1 wired on rims. built them centered on the hubs
I then made spacers to centralise the hubs in the forks

The Classic Biker Bar / Re: 1914 HUMBERETTE "Cyclecar" Valve Timing
« on: September 15, 2020, 09:07:03 PM »
Hi,
The 16/25 timing also applies to the 500/600 "sports" sidevalve
(only this afternoon I was timing up a J.A.P KT V twin (1929) and it has overlap , I have not measured up the amount yet as I put the crank pinion for a minute down and it seems to have gone AWOL  >:(

Some years ago I was asked to come up with cam timing for a 1904 Minerva single cylinder car when a new cam had to be made. I suggested the J.A.P 16/25 timing , It worked out well, The owner of another Minerva visited and test drove the car commented "I wish mine went that well"

I know that owners of Veteran Triumphs play with the cam timing to improve performance and hill climbing by advancing the inlet cam (?)
Does the Humberette have a single or separate cams? experimentation is more difficult with a single camshaft
The J.A.P KT has three key ways in the crank pinion so the timing can be fine tuned

Hi, Beardy
As the 24 models had a useless rim brake I would (and have done to my own project + another ) fit a
drum brake wheel. I have fitted one from a BSA C10/11, 5.5 inch brake and built it to a 21in. rim
On the other bike I used a Mk1 LE Velo hub
The forks will accept the 1/2in knock through axle from either hub and its not hard to attach a torque arm to where the original brake shoe pivoted on the fork leg

Hi
These drawings might help,?
I would think that the bleed hole needs to be upwards if the carb is mounted horizontally ?

Plan to carry a decent fire extinguisher  ::)

Hi
Forks are another giveaway identity point
Its a veteran model too, as the advance retard lever is on the side of the tank rather than on the handlebar

Hi,
Does it have a Bing carb?
I remember one where the main and pilot jets/ holders could be swopped around
it would tick over but not rev

Hi
Once the battery is fully charged the charging stops the regulator switches off
turn the lights on for 10 min to run down the battery a bit , then start the bike  and watch the ammeter
To test the ammeter just reverse the connections and the needle should read backwards, ie show charge  with lights on and engine off..

Hi,
Quote
the ammeter should respond to revving of the engine

Only if the rest of the wiring is correct

When the engine is running connect the volt meter across the battery and see if the voltage rises with engine revs
If it does and the ammeter is still reading minus then there is a wiring error, it could be as simple as the charging wire from the rectifier is connected to the wrong side of the ammeter

Hi All
Just to add to the mix I use 10/40 motorcycle oil suitable for wet clutches in the primary of my A10

Hi RGS
I just remembered, not all ATF's are suitable,  You need type "F"

Hi,
The angle of the cable lever and internal arm need to be correct to maximise lift
Incorrect handlebar lever or "fat" grips also reduce lift
