British Bikes / Re: villiers 10D engine.

Was it in running condition like this ?
It would be very surprising if there wasn't a smear of gasket cement there - even the mearest trace. ?
Maybe someone who knows these engines better could comment, but I'd aim to use something there.

Now days I think Norton did most things good enough for me, I think more about how lucky I am just to be able to ride at all, and modifications are for safety in traffic.

A bit of maintenance, and keeping the rust at bay should feature in those thoughts too !?!
Or future owners may be wishing the PO did better.... ?

With 2 stroke big ends, the important thing is that there is NIL up and down movement.
Unless its really excessive, sideplay doesn't come into it.
Have fun...

Without closeup detail pics of the original bits of your 650SS, it has little or no photographic value though ?

Its all the little details that contribute knowledge of precisely how these bikes used to be.
And with some quite noteable departures from standard, which would need to be flagged.
Any cache of such detail pics, recorded someplace ?

So why not drill the brakes and backing plates and frame brackets full of holes, and make it look like a proper home-modified 'racer'. And save another couple of ounces of weight.
And bob the fenders and fit accessory megaphones too while we are there.

Bikes are either 'original' or 'racer', they can't be half way in between ??

If you 'have enough spares', why not bin that junk brake lever and make the bike original again ?

Slavishly keeping bits that previous owners have trashed doesn't actually make for a good history piece....

A good dab on the rusty bits with phosphoric acid - panel shops rust remover for steel panels - would take the rusty look away, and leave just bare steel. Wiped over with oil, they will stay rust free.

Lot of folks dislike that rusty look, taking away the rust makes old bikes much more acceptable to the eye. ??

P.S. That rear brake lever looks dangerous if you ever need to apply some serious stopping power. ?!?
Koni or Ikon stickers on the rear shocks are none too original !?
Nice bike otherwise.

Japanese Bikes / Re: 1960s honda benly (CA95) no spark

An S110 is quite a different bike to a CA95 - so that wiring diagram should be treated with caution.

Its not generally a good idea to run electrical systems without a battery, or you may fry something.
Can recall going for a spin on one of these, and doing quite a bit to the engine.
But nothing of the electrics, other than the leccy starter was a very capable starter, if the battery was good.

Everything about that bike says 1962 or 1963 - but can't find a pic of a model that completely matches it.
The magneto setup in particular -maybe its been converted from points to magneto - or export models were built to other than domestic specs ?
The internal pushrods like that and 74 x 81 appeared for 1962, and for 1964 the forks were Norton, not AMC.
If I read the description of mudguards and taillight correctly, your taillight is the new-for-1963 version.
And your seat is also the new-for-1963 version.
Not sure where that muffler fits into it, could be earlier ??
So this suggests a 1963 Model 16.

Hopethishelps.

I did notice that minor technicality.
When I read the article - after pressing post...
Will scan and give a link.
Cheers.

Should make close to 100K

Roubles or £ or  €  ?

They don't call those fairings 'hand beaten' for nothing.

Couldn't find the listing, is it up there yet ?
Should have an interesting history... !

Identify these bikes! / Re: can anyone help me identify this old frame.
« on: October 28, 2013, 05:39:47 AM »
Think this is going to be an Indian Prince, circa 1925 or so.
e.g.
http://www.imagenesygraficos.com/fondos-escritorio/data/media/144/indian-motorcycles-1925-indian-prince.jpg

Frame shape can only be mid 1920s, especially with that clincher rim, and no front brake.
Indian didn't have frame numbers until the 1930s, and HD later still,
the VIN was off the engine.

What size is marked on that tire ?

The pics in the reprint of a 1952 Star twin roadtest show what look like flexible tube, neatly down to each floatchamber.
Could be copper pipe though. No loops, whirls or anything, just down then across to a horizontal connection.
Probably cross-connected across to each other too, but that is not so visible.

What does the Parts Book show ?
It will detail each bit, and possibly even illustrate it...
