Hi  R thanks for your reply its nice to know that the crank and rod are probably ok. If i can pick your brains once more, when both parts of the engine seperated there was no gasket, or sealant between the two faces, is this normal for this type of engine.
   Many thanks  Bud.

Hi Im having a go at changing the piston on my Villiers 10D engine. Having never done this before or anything like it I thought a bit of help would be very handy. It all seems pretty straight forward apart from one thing, should there be a minimal amount of side play on the rod at the big end? Hope Im not talking rubbish and look forward to a bit of help.  Many thanks.

British Bikes / Sun Hornet.
« on: October 24, 2013, 02:29:19 PM »
Hi All  My brother recently purchased a 98cc Sun Hornet in blue. Now having read the history of the manufacture of the bike it states that it was released for the 1955 season in blue with the larger fuel tank. All very well but how come I keep finding Hornets on the internet from earlier years and in red and maroon and black and with two different frames. Can someone put me out of my misery. Will try and put a photo of the bike on here and maybe you can tell me if the bike is right or wrong. Just out of interest the frame number is XMC 241 and the engine number is 604B*****.

British Bikes / Re: Albion gearbox.
« on: September 25, 2013, 10:17:53 AM »
Thanks for the replies guys. It may be possible to view the gearbox from photos of the bike which are also posted on here (1932 Coventry Eagle engine).
The problem I have is the bike will pull away but it seems as if the rear brakes are binding, this isnt the case as the brakes are disconnected. After a couple of minutes it get worse and eventuly the wheel seizes altogether, could it be bearings or something worse in the gearbox. I dont really want to start messing until I have some sort of a clue.
Many thanks and fingers crossed Bud.

British Bikes / coventry eagle 147cc engine. ?
« on: September 14, 2013, 10:10:52 AM »
Hi from the photos can anyone confirm that this is a Coventry eagle own engine or is it a Villiers. The only marks i can find are 2021 on the base plate of the head. Hope this makes sense, and fingers crossed.
The logbook states it is a 1934 however the original records says 1932. Confused or what.
