British Bikes / Re: anyone interested in old cars as well as bikes ?

Vauxhall was always badged as Vauxhalls in Australia, and although not that popular there was quite a few about. Holden was a different locally made car.

Nabiac has lots more than what is on their website, over 900 bikes in all. Haigsleigh has lots not on display, but if you ask them they will take you out the back to look at something special. Another one is in Peterborough in South Australia that has some unusual bikes.

What about the motorcycle museums at Haigsleigh (west of Gatton) or at Nabiac. I was at Nabiac last week taking photos of the RE's they had there, but I cannot remember if they had any Ambassadors. Give them a ring and ask them?

I agree with Andy. Try it first and see how it goes, then cut if not happy. Can always weld it back on if not right.

Looks too good to break to me. Pity so far away as I might be interested in it.

Have been back to the dump where I found the bits with a shovel, and after an afternoon of old tins and bottles have only succeeded in finding the gearbox, a small frame piece, magneto end bit and the rusted mudguards. Have hung the bits up with the rest on the shed wall but don't have enough to be worth trying to restore.  :(

Paint stripper from an automotive supplier carefully applied with a brush and high pressure clean.
2nd option is to take frame to a blasting place that uses plastic beads or walnut shells.
3rd option is to burn paint off with a blow lamp (messy and slow).
If the original paint is still sticking ok, why not just sand smooth and repaint?

Re engine numbers; I don't know about the Terrot, but even a lot of modern bikes the numbers don't match. Don't be too concerned about matching number unless you want to sell it for big bucks.
Some bikes with Villiers engines will never match as the engine manufacturer had their own numbering system, then the bike assembler had their own.
Don't fret and enjoy your bike.  :D

Spray everything with something like WD40 until your ready to start. Start with something small like the carby. Arm your self with some small brushes and cleaners and take photos as you pull it apart. The seat will have to be done by a motor trimmer, maybe your frame will need to be sand/bead blasted and can then be painted and set on a stand or old table and as you then restore pieces they can be fitted. I find that once the frame is painted the restore is easy from then on. Have fun.  :D

Could be trouble inside your key switch. Can you try another borrowed one to check?
