British Bikes / Ok, consensus needed here.

Bank holiday question for the housebound and/or bored.

My wife does copy editing, and for this job in hand needs to be accurate, and  has come across a pedantic problem.

I always say one rides a motorcycle, as opposed to driving one.

But this point concerns a story with  a sidecar outfit,  does one ride a side car out fit? or drive one?

I would contend one rides IN the side car but the whole outfit is "driven"  by the person at the controls.

British Bikes / confirmation needed, [or not]
« on: August 23, 2019, 03:22:26 PM »
Ok I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but.......

On one of my 1930s bikes  has always been a sure fire one kick starter,  now after a run out it and a halt, ie for guiness and pie,  refuses to start unless I change its plug, doesn't need to be a new one, just another plug when it's first kick again.

I am suspecting condenser failure, but  in case anyone has any better ideas?  just before I take the mag off that is.

It was a brand new mag out the box 45 years ago....................

British Bikes / British motorcycle charitable trust
« on: June 27, 2018, 04:53:48 PM »
This was a a new one on me, and normally I stay well clear of anything "charity, but seems a good deal for £20 a year, gives free access to a lot of bike museums.
Near me I have Sammy Miller, Haynes, Beaulieu museum, Brooklands and the Tank Museum all qualify under this scheme if I get round to most of them this summer I'll be quids in.
Anyone else in it?

British Bikes / you have to laugh, or just weep
« on: June 10, 2018, 04:33:49 PM »
Look at this ebay ad,
A BSA round tank, a "board racer"  its a race bike because its got no mudguards ::) ::) ::) ::) ::), oh and a hard tail.

The depth of sheer pig ignorance in some ebay ads is bottomless.

British Bikes / Old bike magazines are they a burden?
« on: February 14, 2018, 12:02:01 PM »
Having a sort out,  dragged out all the old 'Motorcycle' mags I ever bought from back in the 1960s till it went tabloid. Dog eared, mice nibbled, damp, covers loose..........I just can't bring myself to dump them and in their present state they are worthless, but just my longest connection with bikes,  I bought some  before my first bike.

You can't give away old Classic Motorcycle glossies from even before the evil empire days.

Anyone else got this problem? I've a feeling they be used to line my coffin.
