PS, Thanks for the mention of the Panthette. A bike I have not come across before but now after looking it up I have to say what a interesting bike. As soon as my son saw me looking at a photo of a un restored one 1/2 hour ago he said can we buy one of those. I will add it to my shopping list :).

Hi, found in London shed clearance. I did think to myself possibly Europian but was hoping a British bike. Thought of a sloper but could not picture a frame in my head.

Hi guys and galls. Hope your all keeping well ?  Anyway can anyone help me ID this set of forks and part frame. Im hoping the frame will go along way to the make as its a bit unusual as its cast iron? The forks are not in as bad order as they look, still solid under the rust with a bit of pitting I will check out before I decide to use them or not on my 250 Rudge engined special I am knocking up. There is the remains in places on the forks of dark green paint, possibly military? The very old Doherty advance and retard leaver looks to have been on there for years, when did Doherty start and could this be original. The damper knob is cast alloy but the iron spindle rod is set into it and can be seen showing on the top of the damper knob. I think the handle bars were fitted with the leavers that come out of the end of the bars as there are hole in the handle bars for the front brake and clutch cable to come out of. The main thing though that hopefully will help is the cast iron frame section. A odd old set but in my eye nice looking :)

British Bikes / Triumph Trident question
« on: September 02, 2016, 08:38:00 PM »
Hi, Hope someone can help. A few weeks ago I cleared a shed for someone. They gave me permission and it was not in the dark at 3am :)  Anyway I came across a vintage motorbike tank cover. I don't think it has been used. You don't see these very often on old  bikes anymore, I guess they are out of fashion. Anyway inside is a stitched in label with Triumph Trident and Small P on. I guess this stands for small petrol tank? Any idea what year this could be? Were all the tanks after the late 60's box shaped ones the same and did other Triumph bikes have the same tank? Even though they are now not often fitted if I had a bike that could have one of these on I would want it just to have on the shelf.

Identify these bikes! / Re: Any idea on this rear wheel ?
« on: July 11, 2016, 01:42:23 PM »
The rust is not as bad as it looks. Its not deep and even the spokes still seem strong. It runs true and the spokes that are on it are not bent. I would wire brush it and give it a oil and I would think it would be fine. I have bikes with thinner spokes with the same level of patina :) . Maybe someone would want it for the hub. Another really mad thing is that I have just inflated the tire. I have only stuck 16 - 18 psi in it but it seems to be holding. I would guess there is a inner tube in there? and that its been there for a long time but seems OK. The tire has lots of tread and only has a bit of crazing on the same spot on both sides where its been sitting for years. When did they stop making these tires? Any ideas. Also now I have it inflated I have measured it again and the exact diameter is 28.5", this seems odd as it clearly says 26" tyre on it. I may clean it up and just see if I can find a spot to hang it up or if not stick it on the Bay to see if its of any use to a 20's bike owner.
               Cheers, Jon

I like to know, knowledge is everything :)
As for size the total diameter with the tyre a bit flat it is 28" and the wheel rim is 23".

Hmm, Sounds like I can rule out a BSA then. Any other ideas? As I have never had a bike from this age did a lot of them have big wheels of this size? 26" looks huge :)

Actually
looking more closely the BSA sprocket holes look round. This one has six holes and they are sort of triangle in shape with the point closest to the spindle hole blunted off. Maybe this will also help with the ID :)
        Cheers.

Ah, I see. I never really looked to see how the belt drive rim was connected . I think looking at it that it's the same as the one on the BSA above. Was that a 26"?. I should of said the 40 spokes are on the plane side and not the sprocket side in my first post. Cheers, Jon.

Hi, Today I bought a vintage 26" wire wheel, sprocket and hub from our local car boot. It came with a Goodyear Cord 26" x 2 1/2"- 2 3/4" tyre on in good order for its age. I would guess a date of maybe early 20's. Anyway the wheel is a bit odd. it has 20 spokes on the plain side and 20 spokes on the sprocket side but on the sprocket side it also has 20 more spokes that have been cut off around 1" from the wheel There is no place these could of connected to. I wondered if in the past the rim had come off something else and been used on this hub. Any idea what would of had 40 spokes on one side and 20 on the other? As always the old seller swore blind it was off of one of T E laurances Broughs :). When did chain drive wheels come in?

John K, with your guess at where they may of come from one was spot on :) Well done. I have the rudge and Triumph Tiger 110 in bits is on the way. I have left the Norton but passed on info to one of my friends who is probably going to take it. Seems like you said there are quite a few old British bikes out in that part of the world and its nice to have a contact out there like I have. Sorry I will not be passing on his name ;)
I will do some good photos of the old frame and do a re post as I have yet to ID it, its so much like a Triumph but not quite right. Maybe its a European bike frame of some sort?.
           Cheers, Jon
