Some of us can manage to get leak-free tin primaries.....

As soon as it's run for a few seconds they will have moved so in my opinion just put the gaps anywhere.

I would just choose a red you like and paint it that colour. I used VW Tornado red for my Guzzi V50 and it looks good (to me at least):

Mini-me is of course correct as always. However, I found the Buckingham seal worked well.

Like all those band type chaincases (Velo is another example) they are a real pain. And when you're also dealing with the dynamo driven from the primary so you're for ever opening it up. It can drive strong men to tears. Not me - I sold my G80S. However, my younger brother failed to learn from my example and is now struggling with his Ajay Model 18........

Come on chaps, it's not that hard. I made this for the Sunbeam using thick walled tube:

Used a Chinese 3,5" lathe. Admittedly getting the thread right was tricky but my turning is hardly expert standard. The slots were cut with hacksaw and file.

My 1952 Norton ES2 (original tank and cap I'm sure) doesn't have a bulge but the cap does tighten down firmly and doesn't leak. It does have a fairly thick "rubber"  (no idea what it actually is) gasket which covers the whole of the underside of the cap with a hole for the breather.

I used a similar one on my Sunbeam - originally made for Land Rover swivels if I remember correctly. It's called semi-fluid grease.

You do need to supply more information, particularly make & model.

I must admit I never had problems with the big end on my pre-65 Bullet trials iron. However, people do say that it's less robust than rollers. I suspect because rollers will happily put up with a mere trickle of oil whereas the bush is more like a plain bearing so needs a plentiful supply.

Does that have the often criticised plain metal big end?

Many thanks.

In other news, started the ES2 up for the first time since August this morning - running very nicely, just the voltage regulator to sort out. Always nice when they start first (or second in this case) kick......

If you're happy to keep it for a while that would be helpful, then if nothing turns up I'll get back to you. OK with you?
