triumph clutch rubbers

Hello i am a new member to the forum,can any body please help me with my 1968 daytona,can any body tell me an easy way to fit the clutch shock absorber rubbers,i have fitted the large ones first,but try as i might i cannot fit the smaller ones,it is a bit difficult holding the hub on the bench while trying to lever the spider,any help would be appreciated.

Try fitting them with the clutch unit on the gearbox mainshaft, assuming the gearbox is in the frame and attached to the rear wheel. Locking the rear wheel while the gearbox is in nuetral, use a  wrench on the clutch centre nut, this should give the required leverage.

Easy. Once you have got the big rubbers in, Fairy liquid will do the trick when inserting the small ones, and will not damage the new rubbers.
If you have not got a spare gearbox mainshaft in a vice to hold the clutch spider, i have used a round piece of wood, such as a broom handle shaven down to roughly the same size as the clutch spider and then tapped into the spider jamming itself, which should be strong enough for you to carry out the rubber insertion procedure, using the Fairy Liquid.

On my Norton AMC clutch i use an old plain clutch plate (lugs on the inside) with a bar welded across it. This way you can get maximum leverage with out the risk of slipping.
